Exactly a year since the solemn tapping of the building stone, a new ice stadium was officially opened in Prague today. Over the past twelve months, private investors have managed to build up-to-date facilities for skaters on two ice surfaces in Strašnice, Prague, in Přetlucká street. The project is newly named ŠKODA ICERINK and is intended primarily for the general public, but also for the training of figure skating and ice hockey youth. A full-fledged winter stadium grew up in Prague for the first time in fifteen years.

His visual face was defined by the renowned studio of DRESS • ŽÁK, who took on work on the exterior and interior of the complex. The project consists of two rinks. The trainings will be led by the ambassadors of the project, the skating champion of Europe Tomáš Verner and the junior world ice hockey champion Martin Holý.

characteristic feature of the building. White, organically shaped mass of aluminum cassettes carried on diagonal beams is a kind of reminiscence to the ice surface and can symbolize the structure of ice under a microscope. The beams are gently slid over the cassettes themselves, which are opened and closed in various places where it is needed and the facade gains dynamism. In the night, the facade can be changed by the LED lighting to change the colors and thus the overall character.

“The interiors of the sports grounds are exclusively functional and practically with the emphasis on minimal costs. Thanks to exposed building materials such as concrete slabs and concrete blocks that we have left in their raw form, we have succeeded in significantly reducing investment in the realization and at the same time improving the sustainability of spaces that, in such a demanding operation such as sports fields, often suffer “, the basic principles of design bring together the co-founder of VRTIŠKA • ŽÁK, Roman Vrtiška. Inside the building you can find not only the ice rink itself, with the necessary facilities, such as changing rooms, a nursing school and a skate brush rental, but also a children's corner with a reception on the ground floor, and fitness, massage and bistro overlooking the ice area on the first floor.

When entering the building you will be stunned by the height of the entrance foyer. “We wanted to emphasize the importance of space verticalism and open up over two floors to enhance the imaginary impression of the temple of sport,” adds Vrtiška with a smile. The entrance hall is dominated by a white organic wall with colorful niches in the form of a reception and elevator shaft. Colors are accompanied by the whole, otherwise neutral tuned, interior in a very refined and decent degree. The authors decided to work with them in space navigation. Also, the ice halls themselves have assigned colors – yellow and red. The designers have also put a lot of color on the cloakroom. Each of them is specific because of it, so that it is easier for them to focus not only on adults, but also on small and preschool children, including morning training zones. “For children, the color is an intuitive and automatic recognition character, unlike the complex letters or numbers,” adds Vladimir Žák, the second founder of the creative duo. The dressing rooms are then numbered over the benches, forming a graphic element in the room. Every two dressing rooms always have a common social background, thus making the costs more efficient not only for the actual implementation but also for the operation.

Interestingly, the project may also be the fact that most divorces are drawn on the surface, which is the natural consequence of the used building elements in their true beauty and the consequent absence of conventional plasters. The whole thing gets more technical impression, which is not only self-serving. The entire construction is very efficient, thanks to the economical technology that guarantees up to 40% more gentle operation than it has been so far.

The total cost of building the stadium reached 170 million crowns.
