Imafuku Architects was commissioned to design a new flagship store for Beijing’s emerging salad restaurant chain Shubo. The theme of their existing restaurants was sports, featuring sporting equipment such as surfboards, bicycles and bouldering walls as ornaments under the slogan of “Keep Calorie Low.” The concept for the flagship located within Lenovo headquarters was to create a new branded spatial language, while referring to the previous sports theme.

Shubo in Lenovo headquarters features the logo green color in various parts such as laminated glass, glass terrazzo chip, metal strip, and furniture. The flagship also features stainless steel diamond plates commonly used in fitness gyms. A running track is drawn with LED tube lights over the tables, creating a sense of movement which is reinforced by the reflections of mirrored diamond plates. Wooden store icons are stamped on rough cement walls to emphasize the brand identity, while a counter seating extended from the salad bar to the street side creates bustle and attract customers through a synergistic effect with the green glass box entrance. An open kitchen features basic materials such as white artificial marble, white matte tile and brushed stainless steel to create a sense of cleanliness especially required for salad restaurants. The spatial identity is mainly characterized by color and material to be able to achieve a sense of consistency as the chain restaurants even under various future conditions.
