Article source: BXBstudio Bogusław Barnaś The Symbiotic House which is largely based on returning to the traditional values of symbiosis with nature can be seen as a specific architectural effort to redefine a modern style of life and at the same time sustaining comfort and implementing the latest technological achievements. It aims to rebuild relationships between humans and their surroundings. The entire construction involves humans in the surrounding course of their natural habitat. It is not a luxury house characterised by the flamboyant prestige of modern consumption. It is rather a house in which luxury stems from natural and authentically rooted human needs.
The concept and first visualisations of the project as a so called Biophilic Design trend were presented by Bogusław Barnas during the Davos World Communication Forum Łódź 2016 as a part of the lecture «Future of the Human Space». Then again during the International Sustainable Architecture Congress in Belgrade in 2017. In the context of a city, The Symbiotic House is supposed to re-create a unique microclimate, while in the context of the countryside it’s form fits quite naturally in the surrounding landscape. A group of symbiotic houses can additionally comprise of structures like The Symbiotic Housing Estate and The Symbiotic Districts. Altogether they form a completely new aesthetic value of urban space. The Symbiotic House entices with it’s clear and simple structure and very ergonomic functional lay-out. The applied elements which connect residents with their natural habitat is by far a virtue of the project. The aquarium pool allows us to observe the natural wildlife and environment all around from inside the house. Above all it creates a unique space of the garage and the spa opening towards an underwater world. Besides it is entirely possible to swim without using any chemicals or additional energy sources that are common in traditionally designed pools. It forms a particular natural landscape with the adjacent garden, and fulfils the interior. It helps to optimise and integrate the electrical installation systems and keep a good microclimate both in the house and the greenhouse. The symbiotic greenhouse is an extension of the living part of the house. It allows cultivation of plants all year long, production of oxygen and optimisation of a ventilation system. During the winter time it creates space with clean smog free air in the garden. This space is intended to be very cosy and intimate. It is designed with the use of modern and industrial systems that regulate the opening of the glass surfaces during the summer time and in the case of rain. The automated chicken coop is an isolated space with perches and cages for laying hens. The fact of laying an egg is noted in the mobile application. The eggs are picked up from the transparent boxes located aside. There are also food dispensers for animals. It is possible to control the entire process remotely. A run for hens is a separated, outer part of the house equipped with a through filled with sand and gabions full of plants. The chicken coop with a run has a automatic cleaning system. The floor of the chicken coop is made out of a special material and based on wheels. It spins once a day. The dirt that is left on the tape under the coop is soaked and cleaned with special brushes. The free range space for the chickens is automatically sprinkled with rain water accumulated in the tank at night. Removed contaminants go to the second tank and are intended to be used as a fertiliser for plants in the garden. Traditional barn is located above the chicken coop. The space has a roof. It can be used as a typical place to gather hay from a mowed meadow. Additionally the barn is supposed to be a playground for kids, a space for recreation or for an economic purpose. The symbiotic fireplace is a very modern battery for energy taken from a renewable source. It accumulates energy and gives out heat. It is inspired by the traditional form of a fireplace with a backside and a nearside. The fireplace divides the space of the house into two separate spheres – a lounge with a view of the water (culture of sofa) and the kitchen with a dining room featuring a view on the greenhouse. The symbiotic garden was created out of elements taken from the naturally composed landscape. The flower meadow is a private nature reserve located on the north side of the house. A wooden platform over the river offers a unique space while entering the house. The recreation part of the garden is a wooden terrace, lawn, and sandy beach attached to the pool. Between the bathing site and the pond a wooden jetty was installed. The entire composition of the plot is enclosed within trees and fruit shrubs. Contact BXBstudio Bogusław Barnaś
