Interior design project of a teppanyaki restaurant by the Japanese chef Koji HASHIMOTO in Paris. Teppanyaki is a kind of cuisine where the chef cooks in a hot steel plate in front of the customers.
This project wants to reconsider the traditional Japanese architecture into a contemporary space. The permeability of light, the rich emptiness of space and flexibility are main features that create the spatiality of Japanese architecture. In addition, we incorporated a traditional “Roji” into the design as a symbolic intermediate space between the urban space of Paris and the inner Japanese architecture.
Sophisticated woodwork such as “Kumiko” made with traditional knowledge and skills of Japanese “Daiku” bring dignity to this hospitality place.
