Mr. Sloping in Vilnius, Lithuania by YCL studio

Sunday, November 8th, 2020

Article source: YCL studio

Cozy, tiny apartment in the newly developed living area in Vilnius, Paupys.

The initial program was to create a simple, but attractive apartment for rent. You may ask: “Why so many slopes?” and we may answer that all started with one huge recuperation pipe that went along the wall through all the apartment. And then all started… To hide one pipe we developed a composition of sloping spaces and doorways that all play the same game in one tiny apartment. Coming closer to the result we saw that this small apartment became more than a place to live, it became a little sculpture, that you almost want to carry it anywhere you go.

De Scheepmaker in Haarlem, Netherlands by vanOmmeren architecten

Thursday, October 29th, 2020

Article source: vanOmmeren architecten

A customised (ware)house where everybody lives like nobody else.

On the border of Haarlem’s historic city centre, a new warehouse has been built. 8-storey residential complex, De Scheepmaker, is a new addition to the Dutch skyline, but is so logical that it looks as if it has been there for years. It is recognisable by its warehouse-inspired typology, stepped roofline, and vertical glass cut. The stepped terraces allow sunlight into the street and compliment the scale of the surrounding architecture. The contemporary translation of industrial brick architecture is discernible by the masonry details in the facade, a tactile feature also made interesting for passers-by up close.

SAWA in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by Mei architects and planners

Friday, October 23rd, 2020

Article source: Mei architects and planners

The Lloydquarter has a rich maritime history, dating back to around 1900. The Lloyd Pier owes its name to the Rotterdamsche Lloyd shipping company, that built a terminal on the pier from which its passenger ships departed to the east of the world. The SAWA building owes its name to the trampled form with generous green terraces, as a reference to Eastern rice fields and the history of the place.

Mori Haus in Bangkok, Thailand by Somdoon Architects

Monday, October 5th, 2020

Article source: Somdoon Architects

“Mori Haus” is located in the growing fringe of Bangkok near a canal, grassland, and residential area. It is a challenge of fitting high-density dwellings into the local neighborhood and maintaining the peaceful atmosphere of its surrounding.

The two blocks of seven-story residential buildings are located along the site perimeter to maximize the central garden. While the third building is a one-story facility building and situated in the openspace between the two residential blocks. The arrangement creates a connection with the triangular common green area in front of the development and highlights the drop-off. It functions as the main lobby before letting residents walk through the landscape to each residential block.
