Masterplan Villa Industria in Hilversum, The Netherlands by Mecanoo

Tuesday, October 29th, 2019

Article source: Mecanoo

Recognisable identity

With its characteristic industrial buildings, the former site of the Regional Energy Supply Company in Hilversum has always had its own identity. The gasworks site was originally situated outside the city perimeter, but gradually became enclosed by residential developments. With the relocation of the gasworks, the opportunity arose to redevelop the site and give it a new name: Villa Industria.

Mecanoo created a masterplan for 357 homes – partly affordable housing, partly owner-occupied, small-scale businesses and sporting facilities. Inspired by the industrial heritage of the site, the area has a recognisable identity once again.

Fort De Vaux in Paris, France by PETITDIDIERPRIOUX architects

Difficult context, quality housing

Adoma’s challenge was the construction of an apartment house with 71 units for young workers, standing atop a former parking garage beside the Paris beltway. A challenge whose main purpose was the creation of small but pleasant and quality units in a difficult urban setting. Comprised of a “signal” building which emerges from a “blade” building, the project’s location bordering the Paris beltway takes advantage of its particular relation between architecture and infrastructure.

Dorpstraat Ulvenhout in The Netherlands by [delacourt][vanbeek]

Monday, October 28th, 2019

Article source: [delacourt][vanbeek]

The “Markstate” plan consists of four luxury apartments and 300 m2 of retail space, which have been carefully integrated into the urban environment of Ulvenhout. The complex is divided into two main volumes of two building layers plus a cap. The village character is emphasized by the two gables and the typical shape of the roof (mansard roof). The combination of sleek brick with a zinc roof gives the building a warm and contemporary look. Each apartment has two spacious balconies, one on the village street and one at the rear.

Functional Abstraction. Złota Apartments 19 in Katowice, Poland by ZALEWSKI ARCHITECTURE GROUP

Monday, October 28th, 2019

Article source: ZALEWSKI ARCHITECTURE GROUP

Złota 19 Apartments nominated in the Silesia Architecture Award 2019.

The project of apartment buildings assumed maximum use of a small plot area. Along with practical function characterizing the project, designers of the Zalewski Architecture Group have not forgotten to implement the project into the context of Katowice architecture. The use of monochrome colors, minimalist shapes and composition based on abstract play of holes were a creative nod to Silesian modernism.

The complex of apartment buildings at 19 Złota Street in Katowice includes two 5-storey residential buildings with apartments of 50-70 m2. On the top floors there are apartments ranging from 100 to 150 m2 (with a mezzanine) with direct access to the terraces. There is a semi-public recreational area available for residents among the buildings.

Two longitudinal buildings separate the internal “courtyard” – it is a solution that takes into account the optimal parameters of the apartments – sunlight, access to a semi-private garden zone, space for parking cars – while making maximum use of the available plot area.

Le Nant’ile in Nantes, France by Leibar & Seigneurin

Thursday, October 24th, 2019

Article source: Leibar & Seigneurin

Delicately inserted into the so-called “Citroën” block,” Le Nant’ile reflects a return to the basic organizational principles of the district with the intensity one expects from a densely built-up city blended with its diverse purposes: living, dwelling and working. Three main goals underpin this structure: first, to create a ribbon volume that fits into the linear layout of existing buildings; second, to ensure visual and pedestrian porosity, weaving all the unbuilt spaces into a legible and fluid continuity; and finally, to build highly diverse spatial configurations making it possible for its occupants to lead a wide variety of lifestyles.

The LOOP in Chongqing, China by LWK + PARTNERS

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019

Article source: LWK + PARTNERS

Designed by LWK + PARTNERS, The LOOP is the sales gallery for Shun Shan Fu, a low-density residential development composed of various luxurious villas and houses. Conceived as a brilliant gem hovering on top of the magnificent landscape of Zhaomu Mountain, the gallery represents power and style but with a softer side that embraces the shapes of nature.

The LOOP features two showrooms linked by a crescent-shaped glass-bottomed bridge named The Skywalk, which is aesthetically pleasing and pragmatic in function. With the use of full steel frame structure and an onion-ring-like cladding system, the undulating forms of The LOOP echo and integrate with the dynamic contours of the site, while The Skywalk grants visitors an unobstructed view of the valley to admire the lush greeneries.

PRO.CRE.AR Buenos Aires Station Sector 10 in Buenos Aires, Argentina by MSGSSS

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019

Article source: MSGSSS

This project arises from the desire to retake the idea of the Towers in La Boca, by the architects Justo Solsona, Josefa Santos, Gian Peani and Ernesto Katzenstein (with the structure of Eng. Gallo), from the year 1956. Winning project of a national competition for construction of 300 houses in La Boca, never realized. The main idea of these buildings, of metabolist design, was the stacking of boxes alternating floor to floor, which presented a housing typology with terraces in the corners, allowing a panoramic view of the port and the city.

The idea for these towers is to reinterpret, in the contemporary key, that project of 4 units per floor, 4 corners. Therefore, to do it, we had, in the first instance, to resign a unit of 2 dormitories per floor, which were displaced above Building K.

Xin-Yi Residential Tower in Taipei, Taiwan by Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP

Monday, October 21st, 2019

Article source: Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP

The rapid urbanization of Asian cities is driving innovation. In Taipei, one of Asia’s key cultural and economic hubs, growth and densification threaten to erode the quality of life for residents and visitors if continued unchecked. With limited resources to meet robust public agendas, governments are looking more and more to private development to meet their public infrastructure needs.  A new luxury residential tower by Richard Meier & Partners creates a new model of urban living in Taiwan.  Commissioned by the Continental Development Corporation, the Xin-Yi Residential Tower sets an important precedent in Taiwan as the first building to dedicate its entire landscape for public use.

Villa Cascade in Almere, Netherlands: Architecture creates dialogue between nature and urban feeling For Villa Cascade, CROSS Architecture has developed a terraced building structure with an inner courtyard that opens onto the adjoining waters. A total of 29 apartments of various sizes have been built on five floors. The modern city villa is located in Almere Poort in the Netherlands.

As the newest district of Almere, Poort differs from its neighbouring districts: Not only single-family houses are planned, but also a wide variety of high-density multi-family houses will dominate the picture in the future. Villa Cascade is located at the interface of green surroundings and adjacent water routes. An attractive location, not only because of its park character, but also because of its immediate proximity to Amsterdam and the unique view of the metropolis skyline.
