Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor in Munich, Germany by concrete

Andaz Munich – Design Story

concrete proudly presents the opening of its latest hotel project, Andaz Munich in Schwabing. Like a kaleidoscope, the Andaz hotel reflects the culture and tradition of the neighbourhood, creating a stimulating and inspiring atmosphere where guests and locals can feel at home.

Weaving state-of-the-art technology and old traditions into the interior, reflecting what makes Munich unique, forming a sense of tension that can be found throughout the hotel design. The ceiling structure illustrates this contrast via a literally interwoven network of rough wood and high-gloss anodised metal. The connecting axis between the different areas which brings all functions together in a single hybrid space ('we share') is a lively place to meet and mingle.

The many facets of Bavarian culture run like a leitmotif through the design. This is reflected from the largest scale to the smallest details; for example, the diamond shape (the Bavarian flag) is placed over the whole layout like a matrix, while details like deer horn buttons on the cushions remind of Bavarian fashion. Many icons associated with the city of Munich have been reinterpreted or abstracted as small highlights drizzled throughout the hotel, while traditional materials have been given a modern interpretation via a contemporary design language, including the “golden pretzel”.

Playstudios HQ in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel by RUST Architects

Tuesday, May 28th, 2019

Article source: RUST Architects

Playstudios offices, planned and designed by RUST Architects, are located in a complex of three industrial buildings in south Tel Aviv, which served as an exhibition and events hall and an old sewing workshop of Kastiel, Israel's oldest high-end furniture company.

Unlike most of new high-tech offices in Tel Aviv, which are located in new towers, the planning required the design of an existing industrial complex, constructed of beams, concrete pillars, and wide windows that are open to a large inner courtyard with its old tree and climbing plants that are synonymous with the complex.

Ilil Coffee in Cheongju-si, South Korea by ATMOROUND

Sunday, May 19th, 2019

Article source: ATMOROUND

Located in suburb, customers of ilil coffee store are intrigued by what is on trend even when they are rather hesitant to apply the new trend to their lives. Being surrounded by familiarity can make us feel comfortable, but can be dull; newness can give fresh touch to our lives, but it may provide discomfort. The main theme of this project was to keep the balance between the two and to make the familiar feel unfamiliar and to make the unfamiliar feel familiar.

The priority of this project was to find the essence of things; being able to see what can be created out of the essence regardless of what it was made to be. Designers constantly reexamined their ideas to show customers different perspectives, and this enabled customers to embrace new ideas into their daily lives.

As it being near residential area, bringing in the features of home was key to the design. Familiar factors of home such as the couch of living room, curtains, windows, dinner table, and room with window were brought into the design in a new perspective.

Shunfenglou Seafood Restaurant in Zhejiang, China by TOPOS DESIGN CLANS

Wednesday, April 24th, 2019

Article source: TOPOS DESIGN CLANS

TOPOS DESIGN CLANS announced the latest project, a seafood restaurant in Yongqiang, Wenzhou, on the coast of East China Sea, with a theme inspired by the ocean beside the city. Shunfenglou Restaurant is a well-known old fashioned local seafood restaurant. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its founding, the owners of the restaurant have announced a bold innovation. They entrusted TOPOS DESIGN CLANS to reinvent the restaurant as a place with a fully renewed sensory dining experience. Drawing on the symphony “La Mer” composed by the French musician Claude Debussy, who is the impressionist music master in the early 20th century, the designers created a series of synesthetic experiences about the sea with the deconstructed space, and presented an impressionist symphony of blue sea for the new restaurant.
