Faculty of Business and Economics at Hong Kong University in China by Rocco Design Architects Associates

Tuesday, July 20th, 2021

Article source: Rocco Design Architects Associates

Embracing the university’s ethos, the design creates spatial and programmatic loops that encourage the holistic cultivation of mind, spirit, and body. The design incorporates a curving set of buildings onto a triangular plot tucked between two winding roadways that descend a steep hillside in Kennedy Town on the western tip of Hong Kong Island. The building meets the intersections of the roads with a long and low volume that carves out a pedestrian plaza and climbs the hill, culminating in a tower that establishes a defining presence in the area.

Escalier Kojimachi in Tokyo, Japan by ETHNOS

Tuesday, June 29th, 2021

Article source: ETHNOS

This project is an office building situated close to JR Yotsuya Station and Shinjuku-Dori Street. The site is a perfect location: its northwest side connected to the street and the east side facing a temple, thus the open view from the building is assured semipermanently.  This is one of the ESCALIER series, continued from its predecessor ESCALIER Gobancho.

The architect secures three openings by lay-outing the elevator core to the southwest side. Using the maximum of a sky factor, the volumes of each floor are shifted to back and forth or right and left, so that every floor is recognized as an individual rental space while the balcony becoming as a green intermediate space between the office and the city environment. Further, the architect has introduced the idea to connect the balcony in the front side and that of the back side by a staircase starting from the ground level, and these balconies are arranged at the northeast side of the building. The connected balconies encourage an active communication between the upper floor and the lower floor, while articulating the relation and the continuity to the city.

Meltcrete Building in Mohali, India by Studio Ardete

Monday, June 28th, 2021

Article source: Studio Ardete

Located in Sec-82 Mohali, a grooming industrial area, this project is a commercial building owning a major focus on being leased out for offices or display centres in the corporate arena.

It was a demanding job to do a south west facing plot into something that lets happy vibes to everything and everybody around and furthermore, be such a stand that inspires the projects in prenatal state to be of a statute similar, thus, bringing class and pep to the otherwise mundane – grey – bland – boxes.

Confirming to the local building norms, it is an open laid out plan with fixed height which leaves the designer with the facade to romance with.

Monday, June 28th, 2021

Article source: Kuba & Pilař architekti

The building is located in a quiet residential Masaryk district, full of quality pre-war functionalist architecture. The volume and spatial solution is based on the character and proportions of the nearest buildings. Residential complex consists of four blocks of different sizes apartment buildings which protrude above the terrain from a common underground base. The set of buildings thus naturally fits into its surroundings. The site with a south-west orientation and an attractive view over the Brno Exhibition Centre to the Kohoutovice forest was the reason for the maximum orientation and the opening of the residential complex into this direction. The apartment buildings descend along the slope, their height decreases towards the southern tip of the plot.

New J&T Finance Group Headquarters in Karlín, Czech Republic by CMC architects

Thursday, June 24th, 2021

Article source: CMC architects

Setting apart the new J&T headquarters from the neighbouring buildings is its appearance – inside and out.

The world of finance is made up of various elements that need to function and fit together flawlessly. The unbroken pattern of the façade mirrors this world.

The design of the façade is a juxtaposition of technological rationality and irregularity an approach inspired by the works of important abstract painters and sculptors. The clear right angles are also repeated in the general layout of the interior. The original graphic design of the directional signs inside the building underscore this orthogonality. The design of the font and symbols as well as the linear geometry of the lighting are based on the façade’s distinct, graphic pattern.
