Article source: Pierre Marchand Architectes

At the request of long time clients, we designed and supervised the construction of a new cabin in the Chamonix valley.

The site is located within a residential compound built in the 50’s. A cabin dating from the original master plan was on the lot.

The location benefits from sweeping and stunning views over the Mont Blanc skyline. This majestic view was the starting point of the design.

Article source: Olson Kundig

This five-hundred-square-foot cabin serves as a private writer’s retreat and guest cottage. The owners asked for a space that felt connected to its island setting—the mild climate, scenic views, and proximity to wildlife. At the same time, they needed a structure that could be easily secured when not in use.

Article source: Local 10 Arquitectura

This 334 square meter booth designed for Porcelanite Lamosa Group at Coverings 2015, was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA. UU. The aim of was to show their main customers and suppliers of the United States, new products of its brands. Having three brands with personalities and different customers, it was a great challenge. It was concluded that the mixture of styles and products could confuse and overwhelm the visitor. Therefore, it emerged an original and elegant stand, which had walls interspersed on the facades and very similar areas to showcase brands. The focus in the center of the whole stand is a small ’boutique’, specially designed for their premium brand Firenze. A darkened lobby helped distribute the space and give freedom of transit users. The bar area, located in the back corner, was divided into two equal spaces, allowing serve customers of different brands in separate sites.

Cabin Ustaoset in Norway by Jon Danielsen Aarhus

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

Article source: Jon Danielsen Aarhus

A cabin for use all year. Situated 1066 meters above sea level, mid-way between Oslo and Bergen, at the foot of the mighty Hardangervidda – one of the greatest mountain plateaus in Europe. With no road connection, materials for the build was flown in with helicopter. The groundworks were done manually to preserve the slow-growing vegetation one finds at such altitudes in Norway. The foundation consists of pillars standing on the bedrock. The outside of the building had to be finished during the short summer months. The rest was completed mid-winter, when materials for the interior could be transported in with snow scooter. The cabin is clad in pine, inside and out. 3-layer, insulating and solar protected glass panels take in the view of the Ustevann(lake), Hallingskarvet(mountain formation) and Hardangerjøkulen(glacier), all in the same panorama.

Winter Cabin on Mount Kanin in Slovenia by OFIS ARHITEKTI

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Article source: OFIS ARHITEKTI

The research for the Cabin was initiated by OFIS arhitekti and CBD structural engineers in collaboration with PZS,  PD Bovec, JZS, Permiz d.o.o. and Ortar in Jerman d.o.o. to develop Self-contained wooden shell, which resist extreme conditions on top of the mountain.

The challenge is to install real objects, shelters in 1:1 on remote sites and study their response to extreme weather, radical temperature shifts, snow and rugged terrain. The harsh conditions of wind, snow, landslides, terrain, and weather require a response of specific architectural forms, structures and concept.
