This project consists of two large retail outlets, a Praxis Megastore (DIY chain store) and a Budgetcenter (Mall with several budget-stores) located in a new developed business park in the city of Enschede, the Netherlands.

While most of the world follows the standard from dust to dust, ashes to ashes cycle, Bangkok prefers something wetter: from water to water. Almost 300 years after rising from the marshy banks of the Chao Phraya, it appears Bangkok will return to its watery origins. A recent UN study estimates that much of the metropolitan area will need to be abandoned by the middle of the century.

BIG wins an invited competition to renovate and extend an existing 1960’s concrete warehouse situated in a Basel industrial district which is being transformed into an alternative Arts District.
Located in Basel’s upcoming Dreispitz neighborhood, which is envisioned as an attractive and inviting urban quarter in Herzog de Meuron’s master plan from 2003, the existing 18.000 m2 ”Transitlager” built in the late 1960s is to be renovated and extended by up to 7.000 m2 for residential and commercial purposes. The development is undertaken by St. Gallen -based real estate development company Nüesch Development for the landlord, the Christoph Merian Foundation and investor the UBS (CH) Property Fund – Swiss Mixed ‘Sima’. The winning entry which included engineers Bollinger Grohmann and HL Technik was chosen among proposals from Harry Gugger Studio and Lacaton Vassal among others.
The company Blaas in Bolzano is specialized in electro-mechanics. In the new head office the company presents its new product range and offers repair service.
On the ground floor of the building there is the sales division, on the first floor the exposition area and the repair shop. All administration offices are located on the second floor. The overall impression of the structure is a homogenous and closed building. Nevertheless, there exists a separation between the public and the private sector. The client can perceive this clear and formal internal division already from the outside.
Last September, Mateo Arquitectura, together with the French practice Dominique Perrault Architecture, presented a proposal for the project to urbanize Îlot P in Lyon Confluence, to the south of the city of Lyon. This competition forms part of the process of urban remodelling being conducted throughout the Lyon Confluence area with the aim of leaving behind its industrial past. The project involved the urban development of a city block (Ilôt P), including housing, comercial areas and offices (laid out in two buildings), and landscaping.
The new office and shopping building fits in with the typology of detached townhouses in the neighborhood. Slight twists of the basic volume actively impact the surrounding urban fabric: A bent in the longitudinal facade line relates the building to its surroundings, consolidating the adjacent streets and creating a usable plaza before the building.
Wisdom Plaza is a low density office and commercial estate that consists of four office blocks linked by a landscaped garden with a partly submerged commercial space. It is conceived as a unique looking built-form, green and sustainable office complex that allow users maximum flexibility in layout design amid a lush, green, landscaped environment. Many unique architectural features previously not seen in office space design are produced here resulting in a delightful and highly functional new form.

The location of the Anna van Beuren tower will be the new Anna van Beuren square, located directly next to the Centraal Station of The Hague. The situation of the building, alongside the under construction Centraal Station, the recently complete ‘New Babylon’ housing and mixed use complex, and a large underground parking garage, will further serve to strengthen and unify this highly visible site in the center of the city. The tower will take the center place on this new square, incorporating student housing and various gastronomic and retail outlets, encouraging ‘interiority’.
A 37-story mixed-use complex in Chengdu, China, recently reached substantial completion and opened its first phase, the 111,500-square-meter Chicony Plaza department store. Occupying a full city block adjacent to a vibrant public square in the central business district of Chengdu, the complex is anchored by the 12-story department store, with a 25-story Grand Hyatt hotel above.
