Reenchanting the Parisian courtyard in France by METEK

Monday, May 14th, 2018

Article source: METEK

To share the block’s heart.

Reunion of the plots of 170 and 168 rue de Crimée.

The architectural intent is, above all, social:reinventing an urban courtyard shared by all the inhabitants while individualizing each door entrance. To create circulations that encourage encounters between neighbors, which connect – in the image of the inhabitants – buildings of different origins and natures. The layout of the buildings, the fragmentation of the mass plan allows visual breakthroughs with the courtyards of neighboring plots. There is a physical continuity with the two courtyards which belong to the same landlord.

Monday, May 7th, 2018

Article source: C.F. Møller Architects

Bestseller is a world-wide fashion group with shops in over 70 countries, featuring well-known brands such as Vero Moda, Jack & Jones, Only, Pieces and several others.

The new office complex for about 800 employees is therefore intended as a showroom for Bestseller’s design-driven corporate identity, and resembles a varied flotilla of buildings at different levels, which are connected by a series of outdoor spaces like atria, courtyards, terraces and roof gardens.

The mixture of office buildings and outdoor spaces creates the impression that this is a town within a town. The complex, surrounded by canals and lakes on all four sides, forms the entrance to the new, urban district on the waterfront in Aarhus, Denmark.

Courtyard House in Toh Yi Rd, Singapore by Ming Architects

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

Article source: Ming Architects

Flanked between the koi pond and the swimming pool, the double volume courtyard – a fulcrum to the house, was introduced to break the monotony of spaces in this linear house. Horizontal and vertical movements are endless and ample daylight floods the key living spaces. A 3-storey high feature steel staircase floats above the koi pond, with a vertical feature wall of black river pebbles as its backdrop. A slim bridge suspends over the courtyard and ties the front and rear wings of the house.

Courtyard by the West Sea in Beijing, China by META-PROJECT

Tuesday, February 7th, 2017

Article source: META-PROJECT

Unlike the introverted quality of the traditional courtyard house, the owner of this site asked for a variety of mix-use program, including tea house, dinning, party space, office, meeting, as well as dwelling and entertainment. Thecontemporary and sometime “public” program opened up the courtyard to become “extraverted”, so as to induce more human interactions. These required us to break the general understanding of the courtyard as an enclosed typology by introducing the experience of “meandering in the hutongs” into the courtyard, and the interventional approach was derived from the unfolding spatial narrative of hutong life.
