Learning Center at Campus of Health Sciences of UGR University in Granada, Spain by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Friday, November 23rd, 2018

Article source: Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Flowing with the natural inclination of the terrain, general movement on the campus finds access to the array of services that are offered in the General Services Building. There can be found the Auditorium, Library and Nursery, as well as restaurants and exhibition rooms.

The expressive will that appears in the ways connecting the main courses on the campus with the General Services Building generates a facility that has a singular, organic shape in consonance with its uses. Such uses -library, museum, cafeteria, and so on- open to free open spaces that are at a lower level than the general height of the site and are delimited by elm plantations.

Technical Faculty Campus Odense Universitet in Denmark by C.F. Møller

Friday, November 9th, 2018

Article source: C.F. Møller

The Technical Faculty is part of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense, and constitutes a shared research and education environment for four different institutes. The building is designed as one big envelope consisting of 5 buildings connected by bridges at multiple levels crossing the heart of the complex, a “piece of furniture” containing common functions, meeting-rooms and café/lounge areas. The many connections allow for more fluid boundaries, and more community and knowledge sharing.

Article source: Clark Nexsen

Located at the entrance of Wake Technical Community College in a natural setting, the Regional Plant Teaching Facility creates a gateway to the campus and acts as a symbol of the merging of technology, education, and sustainability. While the building’s program is comprised of spaces to house heating and cooling equipment, it is also an educational fa-cility for teaching students and the public about energy efficient building systems. A sim-ple rectilinear glass and steel box with a perforated metal screen layer was designed to house, screen, and display the technology and to create a unique educational space for the college.

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) by LOOK Architects Pte Ltd

Monday, September 17th, 2018

Article source: LOOK Architects Pte Ltd

Singapore University of Technology and Design – Student Housing and Sports Complex.

LOOK Architects, in collaboration with Surbana International Consultants, has put forth the winning design proposal for Singapore University of Technology and Design’s (SUTD) new student housing and sports facilities, envisioning a spatial framework that embraces creative liberty and possibilities. Drawing a parallel to traditional Chinese painting (empty space being regarded as a spatial element sharing equal if not greater importance as solid figuration), voids are seen as spaces for imagination to thrive. This dimension of ‘energised voids’ in the design approach is manifested as a peek-a-boo trail of collaborative spaces along the common corridors of hostel blocks – an orchestration of multi-use spaces open for leisurely exchanges. On a macro scale, these perforations in the 12-storey hostel blocks are strategically located to allow for increased air movement through the building mass, a passive environmental control measure that promotes natural ventilation through housing units.
