Marinehaus in Berlin, Germany by ADEPT

Danish office ADEPT wins international museum competition in Berlin

For more than 20 years, the protected ‘Marinehaus,‘ originally a union club for naval officers, was left neglected in the central Berlin neighborhood, Mitte. Now the building, as a central part of the vision of the Berlin City Museum to establish a cultural cluster, is to be resurrected as a new museum typology. With a strong house-in-house concept, ADEPT wins the international competition ahead of 20 invited competitors.

The transformation of a 7.800 m2 protected building is part of the future strategy for Stadtmuseum Berlin, that includes a new type of museum – a creative and cultural pivot that anchors the museum in the everyday life of the neighborhood through exhibitions, workshops and as a community center for the locals.

ADEPT’s winning proposal shows how a simple house-in-house concept can create synergy between the new community functions and the historical frame, already integrated in the urban context. The existing floors are removed and replaced by a new interior wooden structure, allowing visual connections between floors and a warm inclusive identity to the project.

Three Aspects of the Reconstruction Strategy for the Building of the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga

Considering the unique architecture of the building, its representational importance and significant contribution to the cultural heritage, the proposed extension strategy is based on:

– retention of the existing building capacity and authentic details;

– need for renewal and extension of museum functions in the clearly expressed modern volume and subtle minimal design of the additional spaces;

M’ARS Centre for Multimedia Arts in Abrau-Durso, Russia by NOWADAYS

Friday, November 30th, 2018

Article source: NOWADAYS

This project of transforming part of a former sparkling wine factory into a multimedia art center was inspired by a genuine interest in the history of the building and executed through a series of light — both in terms of the artwork material and the manner — interventions into the space.

MARS, the first contemporary art gallery to be founded in post-Soviet Moscow, now functions as an innovative multimedia art institution. In May 2016, a new MARS center was opened amidst Abrau-Durso’s idyllic scenery — a picturesque locale in the South of Russia. The gallery spans the entire first floor of the stone-clad champagne factory.

Learning Center at Campus of Health Sciences of UGR University in Granada, Spain by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Friday, November 23rd, 2018

Article source: Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Flowing with the natural inclination of the terrain, general movement on the campus finds access to the array of services that are offered in the General Services Building. There can be found the Auditorium, Library and Nursery, as well as restaurants and exhibition rooms.

The expressive will that appears in the ways connecting the main courses on the campus with the General Services Building generates a facility that has a singular, organic shape in consonance with its uses. Such uses -library, museum, cafeteria, and so on- open to free open spaces that are at a lower level than the general height of the site and are delimited by elm plantations.
