SOS Children’s Village in Tadjourah, Djibouti by Urko Sanchez Architects

Article source: Urko Sanchez Architects

A medina for children designed according to extreme weather conditions and community traditions.

CONTEXT

We were approached by SOS Kinderdorf for a compound of 15 houses for children, to run their family-strengthening programmes, as they are an international NGO committed to caring for children, orphaned or in need, and to provide them with a permanent home and family. The project was to take place in Tadjourah, on the coast of Djibouti, in the horn of Africa, not far from where the hottest temperature ever was recorded. This very hot and dry climate will be a determining aspect in our design solution.

House at Neil Road in Singapore by ONG&ONG Pte Ltd

Wednesday, February 8th, 2017

Article source: ONG&ONG Pte Ltd

Located within a conservation district, this home celebrates the traditional charm of Peranakan shophouses with the addition of new spaces that are sensitive to the building’s rich heritage.

Akin to traditional shophouses, the spaces are interspersed with courtyards that serve as visual focal points. The original courtyard – with its preserved ornate fish mould centerpiece and accompanying water feature – forms the heart of the common areas while a newer courtyard marks the transition from the old structure into its new extension. A young tree in the centre of this new courtyard adds a touch of nature to the urban ensemble. To the rear of the house are the kitchen and a retro spiral staircase that leads to the second floor master bedroom and rooftop terrace.

Hexoffice in Istanbul, Turkey by Slash Architects and Arkizon Architects

Wednesday, February 8th, 2017

Article source: pRchitect communications consultancy

The Hexoffice Building is situated in Gayrettepe, one of the developing business sites. The goal is to create an innovative A plus building in the existing building pattern of the area. The main approach to design the building aims to separate the circulation and office area both in terms of mass proportions and facade. The circulation and service areas of the building are situated on the west side by occupying as minimum space as possible and creating maximum space for the office usage. The building has double facade mesh which creates controlled lighting of the office areas whereas the circulation and service areas are closed with an opaque facade. The green terraces located in every floor of the building increases the happiness of the employees and tears the pattern of the facade.

Article source: Anonymous Architects

The site is characterized by its remote feeling and mature trees; this despite being surrounded by dense urban development. It is an unusual paradox to have such a natural setting that occurs in the middle of Los Angeles – a city known for its endless sprawl and crawling traffic.

Friday, February 3rd, 2017

Article source: 3ndy Studio

An home is the place where you feel good every time you enter inside, a sort of shelter inside the town. Not too big and not too small. The way  you think about your life out of the work is your home. It Is the place for you and for your family, with all the utilities but in the same time simple and easy to maintain. And also the home has not to consume too much energy and it’s better if the energy comes from the sun. This home is made in part with ancient materials, that come from the grandparent’s old house,  as the wood and the bricks that recall to memory the roots of the family. New materials as Corian, are used in the furniture and the stairs. The atmosphere inside this country house is extremely warm and is due to the color of natural material used for the interior wall and for the floor.
