Galeria Melissa in New York by Pascali Semerdjian ArquitetosThursday, April 13th, 2017Article source: Pascali Semerdjian Arquitetos When we visited the place where the Gallery would be located, we felt that the space provided a cozy distance from the pace of the city. We then drew a parallel with the older shelters in existence – the caves. It was based on this reflection that we developed the project. Designed in partnership with Edson Matsuo, Grendene’s design director, the Melissa Gallery was designed to harmonize with the concept of a shelter, of refuge in the middle of a megalopolis. Floor, wall and ceiling were built with the same finish to stress this impression, and the shoes are arranged in small increases in both wall and floor that evoke stalagmites – the cave formations that protrude from cave floors towards the ceiling. The impetus of the expansion was the awarding of the Eugene B. Adkins Collection to a partnership between the University of Oklahoma and the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa. The Collection is among the nation’s most important private collections of works by the Taos artists as well as Native American works of art. It totals more than 3,300 objects including 1,100 two-dimensional works, 370 pieces of pottery, more than 1,600 examples of jewelry and silverwork, and nearly 250 pieces of other Native arts. Hermès Gion-mise in Kyoto, Japan by ODSSunday, January 8th, 2017Article source: ODS This was an architectural project for the design of Daimaru Kyoto, Gion Machiya, as a part of Daimaru’s 300th anniversary for its foundation. We also conducted the interior design of < Hermès Gion-mise> as the first shop opened in this traditional Japanese house. The site is located along Hanamikoji Street, which goes through the center of Gion area in Kyoto city with traditional townscape. Mathematics: The Winton Gallery in London, UK by Zaha Hadid ArchitectsThursday, January 5th, 2017Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects It is a wonderful coincidence that we started work designing the Science Museum’s Mathematics Gallery in the bicentennial year of the birth of Ada Lovelace, a pioneering woman in the history of computers and of ‘poetic science’. Her inspirational influence on our approach to the design of the project, from inception to completion, cannot be overstated. Just as her Notes unravelled the abstract world of the analytical engine and its logic to generations beyond, we hope the design of the Mathematics Gallery complements the curatorial ambitions to inspire and engage further generations with the instinctive and physical aspects of mathematics. Collections like those housed within the Science Museum in London are instrumental in allowing the human mind to explore the many dimensions of innovation. The new group of objects on display in the Gallery is meticulously curated to narrate seemingly everyday moments in innovation driven by mathematics.
