The East Fremantle House is a contextually responsive addition to a heritage cottage in suburban Perth.
The most important part of this house is the space that is not built – specifically, a large northern void – a space for sun, light, sky, sound, and breeze to inhabit. The house then traces this edge, creating rooms with immediate connection to these elemental conditions.
If there is something that makes you fall in love with this house when you enter, it is the light that floods every corner.
And it is the light that comes from the Cantabrian Sea that is right in front of it, in the Sardinero Beach in Santander, inviting you to a walk on the sand and enjoy the freedom of the breeze that comes through the windows with the smell of saltpeter.
Apartment T 801 is located in one of the most affluent areas in western Mexico City, Colonia Bosque de las Lomas. In its early years the neighborhood was ringed by forest land, and over time and with urban growth has evolved into a cosmopolitan district with all the urban amenities necessary for comfortable living.
The project consisted of a total renovation, and using the structure as a shell, eliminated all the walls which had divided the previous spaces to accommodate the needs and preferences of the new family which occupies it today, a music loving couple.
A canvas characterized by its rough texture, which arises from the aesthetic configuration created by the concrete block masonry. It is the skin of this house that seeks the balance between the material, the spatiality it contains and the ornament it exhibits. The work distributes its program in three levels, the first being composed of the garage area and the main access, the second of the social area, while the third level corresponds to the resting area with three bedrooms. The spatial organization is aimed at minimizing the impact on the terrain, taking advantage of the ascending sloping topography, which is manifested with a front facade of three levels and a rear of only two.
The international firm ARK Architects stands out for the 100% sustainable construction in their projects, as well as a detailed study of gardening projects, creating villas in close contact with nature. This firm (which operates in areas such as Miami, in the USA) is acknowledged as having a unique way of fusing exteriors and interiors. This is once again evident in its new project recently launched: Seven Gardens is a new high-end home built in the heart of Sotogrande (Malaga).
The unique context of the place and the potential negative consequence of implementing a new tissue in this unique area meant that the decision to shape a new building was not easy and had to refer directly to these guidelines, not compete with them, and “respond” to the environment with its uniqueness in a contemporary way. The task was even more difficult as the budget was limited and the investor’s expectations were high. The idea and shape of the building resulted directly from the irregular polygonal shape of the area intended for development and the idea of leaving the largest possible tree stand on the plot. Such a simple inspiration has become the basic guideline for shaping the building. Creating the form step by step, first of all: the solid was formed in accordance with the function of the apartments, optimizing their function into the shape of an irregular polygon.
The Mushroom is located in a pine forest. Thus handling the relationship between nature and the architecture became the essential approach of our design.
The architectural form of the Mushroom is composed of two simple volumes according to the functions:
This house, located in São Paulo, Brazil, has 730m² and belongs to journalist Monica Salgado, who had just left an apartment in search of a house that would provide her with more spacious spaces, contact with nature and freedom to relax with much more comfort. The client’s request was to obtain cozy environments, with touches of color, that followed a romantic and vintage line, a style that defines her personality a lot.
The house, which was previously more rustic, did not please the resident, who hired architect Ana Rozenblit, from the Spaço Interior office, to reformulate all interior design. As there was no need for a break-break, the starting point was to invest in a creative, versatile and original decoration that would take advantage of the furniture that the client wanted to bring from the apartment.
Teton House is a mountain home that embraces the dramatically varied climate in Jackson Hole, which experiences all four seasons and extreme temperature fluctuations. The clients wanted a direct engagement with the mountain landscape and adventurous lifestyle of Jackson, but also the ability to shutter the home when away or during challenging bouts of weather such as extreme snowstorms. The result is a home with varying degrees of transparency that can open and close in response to Jackson Hole Mountain’s changing disposition.
