The urban development plan for Beauséjour, on the Sainte-Marie town in La Réunion, aims to meet a tremendous challenge. It consists in taking an outstanding 80 ha site of sugar cane fields and then conceiving and creating a town that will be loved by its population and will go through time without hindrance, by integrating it into the environmental setting of the 21st century. (Re-)Discovering the pleasure of living “in town”, on an island, in a period when people prefer to live individually and apart, is not as simple as it may seem.
Kik Park is a leftover urban area that Francesco Gatti is surprised to see has escaped being built-up and which is positioned at the entrance to the Kic Village, constructed in recent years for the students at the nearby universities of Fudan and Tongji. Since 2005 when the Italian architect transferred part of his professional activities to China he has recurrently been interested in the possibility of designing interstice spaces – as in the case of the In Factory JingAn Six Loft Buildings (2006), where the outside areas of the redevelopment project were treated on a par with a residential and work environment.
The project stems from the idea of creating a perfect synergy between architecture, nature and social technologies Jardimpu (Arduino and Paraimpu).
The name “St. Horto” is a pun, between Italian and English language. The two words “Horto” and “St” give at the same time the idea of a sacred, intimate garden and of something crooked, apparently disordered but full of life, just like a plant. Together they represent the irregular geometry (crooked or oblique) but highly controlled architectural design of the garden.

The expansion of the cemetery in Tavazzano con Villavesco experiences a new relationship between the city of the living and the places of the dead, creating a novel and interesting link between landscape and funerary architecture. The project actively builds the atmosphere of a park-cemetery, where all the individualistic exaggerations, typically connected to traditional Latin models, are replaced by a widespread, gentle, someway \”domestic\” monumentality.

KABC’s winning scheme for an innovative office and research campus in Hangzhou, China, was selected over six international firms invited to submit designs. Our vision for the facility in the Hai Chuang Yuan Community is based upon creating a continuous multi-layered pedestrian experience. It is intended to strengthen and benefit the community, which will inhabit and move through the site. Everyday activities including parking underground, moving throughout the buildings, and working in the offices are connected to the natural environment. Workers will be engaged by exterior and interior green gardens that are interwoven into their office environment.

Dongqian Lake, a water reservoir supplying the residents of Ningbo, requires regular dredging which results in a large quantity of by-product. The local authorities recognised an opportunity to use this by-product for the creation of a man-made island within the lake.

The reason for selecting and analyzing this concept was the examination of the area of Athens. The city is characterized by the growth and development of new buildings. Even if those new structures improved the every day life of the residents, the overall effect on the character of the city suffered.
We selected this particular concept because we noticed the negative impact of those urban structures on the landscape of Athens and that the city is “eating away” the landscape. Our intention is to create the opposite effect: for the landscape to merge with the city.

The split form is at once an ode to the landforms of the genus loci (rock out-crops) and the cultural interweave of local cultures. The building is distinctly two forms, the same yet mirrored & reversed to give a individuality & yet allowing each to speak – open faced to one another in constant dialogue. This dialogue is continued to the landscape by the form of the building, mimicking the shafts of rock and forming of stairs.
In order to establish a large enough flat surface area for the equestrian facility, the preexisting slope has been divided into several terraces. These terraces provide the necessary surface area required by each independent structure, such as the indoor riding arena, the stables, the open space, the kids club, the operator’s apartment, and subsequently trail away into the open country. Objects such as stables and the adjoining building are incorporated into these intersecting lines, which manifest themselves as batter and supporting wall, whereas the indoor riding arena and the gallery of the open space rest on the landscape.
