Sam Pasdaran in Tehran, Iran by Razan Architects

Wednesday, February 27th, 2019

Article source: Razan Architects

At the end of the 1990’s, the face of Tehran and the lifestyle of middle-class changed with the establishment of shopping centers and malls. The new shopping centers had advantages such as the creating interactions between people and the city, but they led to local dilemmas with the increase of traffic and urban problems.

The big challenge of Sam Pasdaran design was to construct a commercial project on a narrow street. In this project, in addition to encouraging the citizens to interact with the city as well as observing the client’s demands such as maximizing commercial area, the problems including traffic, overcrowding, and the degradation in quality of life should be prevented.

Hotel LN Garden in Nansha, China by Studio 3LHD

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

Article source: Studio 3LHD

Located in southern China’s Guangdong province, on the Zhu Jiang (Pearl River) estuary, the LN Garden is part of the Nansha Seaside Park. The hotel has a surface of 61068 m2 and 365 rooms. The building forms a unique entity with the surrounding landscape – the shaded and sunny elements of the design (water, lawns and paved surfaces) rhythmically form the spatial dynamics. The main public space of the hotel has a view to the beautiful bay to the west and Seaside Park on the east side of the hotel. Two vertical lobbies and a dominant water feature allow for a gentle flow of space. The transition between outdoor areas and interior spaces is softened by the use of exterior vegetation throughout the lobby.

V on Shenton in Singapore by UNStudio

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019

Article source: UNStudio

Located in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District, the former UIC Building dominated the city skyline as Singapore’s tallest building for many years following its completion in 1973 and formed part of an important collection of towers located along Shenton Way.

Recently the area has undergone a rejuvenation and transformation and V on Shenton – the new UIC building – forms part of this redevelopment. The mixed-use programming of V on Shenton presents a unique situation in this area of the city.

Scotts Tower in Singapore by UNStudio

Sunday, January 20th, 2019

Article source: UNStudio

The Scotts Tower SOHO apartment building is situated on a prime location in Singapore, close to the Orchard Road luxury shopping district and with views encompassing both nearby parkland and the panoramic cityscape of Singapore City.

The 18,500m2, 31-storey, 231-unit tower consists of 1 to 3-bedroom apartments and 4-bedroom penthouses, along with expansive landscaped gardens, sky terraces, penthouse roof gardens and a variety of recreational facilities.

Ben van Berkel: “An interesting facet of The Scotts Tower is the way that it reacts to the urban context of Singapore. Instead of the more usual means of planning a city horizontally, we have created neighbourhoods in the sky: a vertical city where each zone has its own distinct identity.”

Harvard HouseZero in Cambridge, Massachusetts by Snøhetta

Friday, January 18th, 2019

Article source: Snøhetta

The Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities (CGBC) at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) announced today the completion of HouseZero, the retrofitting of its headquarters in a pre-1940s building in Cambridge into an ambitious living-laboratory and an energy-positive prototype for ultra-efficiency that will help us to understand buildings in new ways. The design of HouseZero has been driven by radically ambitious performance targets from the outset, including nearly zero energy for heating and cooling, zero electric lighting during the day, operating with 100 percent natural ventilation, and producing zero carbon emissions. The building is intended to produce more energy over its lifetime than was used to renovate it and throughout its subsequent operation. Snøhetta was the project’s lead architect and Skanska Teknikk Norway was the lead energy engineer.

In 2013, the Fuzhou Government hosted an international invited competition for the Strait Culture and Art Centre with the goal of strengthening the cultural image of the city and the Mawei New Town development area. PES-Architects’ winning proposal aims to offer an extraordinary experience for ordinary users by creating a new type of “cultural shopping mall”. The cultural programmes of the Centre are complemented with commercial and family-oriented entertainment services to create a modern hybrid complex. Zallinger in Seiser Alm, Italy by NOA* – NETWORK OF ARCHITECTURE

Zallinger: A Scattered Hotel at High Altitude

With the renovation and expansion of the Zallinger Refuge at the Seiser Alm/ Alpe di Siusi, a new model of hospitality was born and serving as a good example of responsible tourism.

An example of a historical and landscape recovery intervention in a high mountain context. The nineteenth-century barns are reborn as mini-chalets, which bring back the charm of an alpine village. The South Tyrolean tradition is combined with comfort, quality of design and sustainability. The ClimaHotel was built with maximum environmental protection in every aspect of the construction. The project, designed by noa*, an architecture studio in South Tyrol that has long been committed to developing innovative models of receptivity and green tourism (they were recently included by Dezeen in the short list of the 20 emerging international architecture firms for the year 2018).
