Delft City Hall and Train Station in Netherlands by mecanoo architecten

Monday, November 5th, 2018

Article source: mecanoo architecten

Arriving in Delft is an unforgettable experience. From the outset, Mecanoo’s idea was to design a station that makes it clear to visitors that they have arrived in Delft. The station, in combination with the new city hall, sits atop a new train tunnel built in place of the old concrete viaduct that divided the city in two since 1965. Coming up the escalators, the impressive ceiling with the historic map of Delft unfolds. When you look outside, you see the city and the old station as a contemporary version of Johannes Vermeer’s painting ‘View of Delft’.

Article source: OPPENHEIM ARCHITECTURE

The 14-story, 545,000 SF Star Metals Office building provides over 225,000 SF of Class A office space and 23,000 SF of retail area. Tenants will share common building areas and outdoor terraces and have access to bike storage and shower facilities. A rooftop restaurant with an outdoor terrace will crown the structure, providing incredible views of the Atlanta skyline.

The design concept for the Star Metals Office building is inspired by the historical context of its site. The building’s form and materials are heavily influenced by the area’s existing industrial, agricultural, and warehouse structures, which were constructed with materials chosen for low cost, easy maintenance, and longevity. These materials were typically assembled in consistent structural bays with repetitive rhythms of solid infill and large fenestrations.

RoarcRenew renovated the space of Carlowitz & Co., (third to fifth floor) located in Middle Jiangxi Road, into a unique co-working space. The original building was built in 1898 with large natural stones and red ganged bricks. It was the biggest architecture among all public concession buildings in Shanghai. In recent years, it was reconstructed from the original wooden structure to a steel structured building. In this project, Roarc Renew kept the original structure, concrete walls and the architectural texture.

Comet Hotel in Surat Thani, Thailand Studio PLP Co.,Ltd.

Friday, September 28th, 2018

Article source: Studio PLP Co.,Ltd.

The hotel is situated in Surat Thani province. Its design concept—Tropical Surreal—was inspired by Surat Thani’s very own milieu. The design team embarked on the project treating the architectural structure as a cube with overlapping areas of varying functions and perspectives.

Hotel Front Entrance

From the front view, the design was inspired by the abundance of coconut trees in Surat Thani province. The “Tropical Forest”—green, slanted lines—against the architecture reflects the origin of the project’s name, Comet. From the entrance, passersby will be able to see the motions in the lobby area. Similarly on the second floor in the all-day dining area, guests will see the change of movements that metamorphoses throughout time once they stroll into the front hall. Lava stone is used to exhibit the South’s ample mineral.
