The Kolon Group, based in Seoul, is a diverse corporation whose activities range from textiles, chemicals, and sustainable technologies, to original clothing lines in the athletic and ready-to-wear fashion markets. Between the group’s 38 divisions, Kolon covers research, primary material manufacture, and product construction – a unique configuration that enables the company to capitalize on its own resources and advances, and to forge innovative collaborations between divisions. Supporting this collaborative model was a primary goal behind the design of Kolon’s new Corporate Headquarters and Research Facilities. Bringing researchers, leadership, and designers together in one location, the building combines flexible laboratory facilities with executive offices and active social spaces that encourage greater interaction and exchange across the company.

Hexoffice in Istanbul, Turkey by Slash Architects and Arkizon Architects

Wednesday, February 8th, 2017

Article source: pRchitect communications consultancy

The Hexoffice Building is situated in Gayrettepe, one of the developing business sites. The goal is to create an innovative A plus building in the existing building pattern of the area. The main approach to design the building aims to separate the circulation and office area both in terms of mass proportions and facade. The circulation and service areas of the building are situated on the west side by occupying as minimum space as possible and creating maximum space for the office usage. The building has double facade mesh which creates controlled lighting of the office areas whereas the circulation and service areas are closed with an opaque facade. The green terraces located in every floor of the building increases the happiness of the employees and tears the pattern of the facade.

Between the city centre and the Rhine River

The former railway head office is on Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer immediately opposite the Rhine River and in immediate vicinity of Cologne’s main railway station, the cathedral and the city centre. There are visual links to the cathedral, the bridge Hohenzollernbrücke, the opposite riverbank as well as beyond the Rhine bend to the more distant office buildings and the Cologne Trade Fair Centre, Koelnmesse. Clearly visible from the other side of the river, Neue Direktion Köln is an important landmark within Cologne’s urban landscape.

OnCube in Shanghai, China by gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

Friday, January 6th, 2017

Article source: gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

gmp completes new office complex in China

The OnCube office complex has been completed on the industrial site of the Caohejing company in Shanghai to plans by the architects practice von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The design of the new building has been derived from the basic theme of a square – both in its outer appearance and in its details and landscaping. The strictly geometric double grid of the facade provides a sophisticated visual three-dimensional effect. This gives the solid office block lightness and, within its heterogeneous surroundings, makes it into a landmark that is conspicuous in its precision.

The project brief was to create a dynamic and dramatic office space for a new division of a company with varied interests and businesses. Since the client had rented this space for a short term lease, the solution had to be a minimum investment on “fixed interiors” with maximum focus on elements that could be moved to another location and reused in future.
