With the Rooftop Office, CROSS Architecture has created a prismatic building structure for the renowned furnishing house Mathes in the middle of Aachen, which not only opens up unique perspectives on the cathedral and the old town, but also brings working in the Open Space Office to a new level. In addition, the project provides a positive impulse with regard to the redensification of urban areas. Mid-sized town Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle) ist he westernmost city in Germany.
CROSS Architecture has given the 1960s existing building a progressive look with a 400 sqm prismatic structure. “This building needed an extraordinary architecture that was appropriate to the particularity of the location,” explains Markus Sporer, Founding Partner CROSS Architecture. The result is a structure with a trapezoidal basic figure that is created by the play of differently inclined window and façade fronts – tilted outwards on the cathedral side and inwards on the other sides. There is a terrace all around. The cubature is derived from the urban planning situation in the immediate vicinity of the World Heritage Site Aachen Cathedral and Town Hall, the consideration of lines of sight and orientation.
LOM architecture and design collaborated with RocketSpace to create a brand new co-working space in Angel, north London as their first new facility outside San Francisco where alumni include Uber, Blippar and Spotify. The London campus, with flexible workspace for up to 1,500 people, is the result of a successful partnership with NatWest.
The new space includes a former underground bank vault, with the 1980s building stripped back to its original concrete frame, revealing the blast proof reinforced structure, coffered ceilings and brickwork. A utilitarian workplace design includes exposed services, clean lines, steel and concrete with accent colours. LOM also created bespoke wayfinding and environmental graphics.
In 2017, the Port Authorities of Motril announced a contest for the new Headquarters of Port Operations of the National Police in order to control the activities carried out in the harbour. The proposed location between fishing vessels a few meters from the Mediterranean is strategic as a control point. This position together with the proximity of groundwater makes the design a sum of architectural and energy-related decisions with the goal of achieving a building with zero energy consumption. Formally, a strategy of sealing the corners and opening the interior spaces is chosen, with a system of courtyards that act as thermal regulators and contribute to the light quality and permeability of the interior.
“We were able to create a hotel-like luxurious workspace that is truly comfortable for employees to work in, to feel proud and engaged with their company. Our spatial composition draws in the scenic harbourview of Hong Kong from the top of the IFC II tower.” – Kenny Kinugasa-Tsui, co-founder of Bean Buro.
“A sculptural bookcase connects a homey boardroom to the general open plan workspace with a proper café in the backdrop. We created a noble materials palette of natural timber, green marble, leather and various custom designed furniture..” – Lorène Faure, co-founder of Bean Buro
Bean Buro’s new office design for Sapientia Investment takes its inspiration from the breath taking vistas observed from the top of the IFC two tower. One of the challenges for this project was to create a soothing space, an oasis in the centre of one of the world’s biggest and busiest financial district. As a response to this conundrum, the overall design expresses the natural, organic forms of Hong Kong’s landscape, drawing from the harbour’s energetic movements and topographic form to sculpt a space that echoes its surrounding mountains and tides.
Located on Soi Prasert Manukitch 25, Bangkok. The project’s surrounding land use is mostly wasteland and dwelling area. The opposite land is a Body Repair & Maintenance Car Garage. Adjacent to the site are cement plant and wasteland. The land plot has two deeds, with one being a square shape and the other a trapezoid shape. The frontage faces towards the west. With Thailand’s tropical climate, design challenge may derive especially with glass or translucent materials.
The Project owner required usable area of approximately 4,000 square meters consisting office and reception lounge. The materials of this project are simple and easy to maintain.
