MVRDV´s “KoolKiel” Will Redevelop a City Block Using a Progressive Approach to Participation and Flexibility
MVRDV has been selected as the designer of a 65,000-square-metre mixed-use complex that will redevelop a post-industrial site in Kiel, Germany. The proposal, which includes a hotel, offices, residences, commercial space, and an event space, makes use of a flexible design system, rather than a fixed and unchangeable plan, allowing the design to adapt easily to the needs and desires of the community as the design development progresses.
VINTED is the place where community and staff are connected by common ideas, work environment and friendly office spaces. The new office of 600 square meters which symbolically we call VINTED 4TH is situated in Žirmūnai district in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, on the fourth floor of the old administrative building. Entrance to the office is right from the elevator! Much wow!
Our aim was to redesign existing old plan that could represent the company at its best – young, interesting and open minded.
Color cuts in the plan shows difference in the taste of every person who works there or who uses its service. Not to enchant colorful environment too much, the main working area we left bright and calm, what counts as strong fundamental stone of the company.
The 4th floor terrace area of Dobong-gu city hall in Dobong-gu, Seoul was empty space as the building’s idle space. It was the space where the upper office space and the lower civil service space meet, and it was an important void space that mediates the upper and lower parts of the form of the building. However, in 2017, Dobong-gu Office decided to expand two spaces in the space to solve the space shortage problem and expand work and rest space. HG-Architecture won the competition about the expansion of building utilizing this terrace space, 2017. The construction was recently completed by successfully maintaining the design concept and details of competition proposal.
Studioninedots presents Black Swan, the result of our research into Overamstel’s gradual transition from an industrial area to a characteristic, mixed-use district in Amsterdam.
All over the Netherlands, mono-functional industrial sites are designated as potential densification areas. Their often generous layout allows for specific interventions to generate the aimed urban density. With Black Swan we propose a design as well as a strategy for welcoming, bit by bit, housing and facilities to a permanently active work area.
Black Swan’s medium-rise tower is home to both workspaces and apartments; its base functions to facilitate creative offices, restaurant, bar and culture. At street level, Black Swan interacts with the existing Building B of the adjoining Kauwgomballenfabriek socially and energetically. Here, the pioneering residents and users collectively take care of the spaces within and around Black Swan.

We designed a free-address office space for DAQ, a company running iPhone accessories brands Andmesh and Squair, converted from a former French restaurant. The spacious open-plan office seating 24 employees and the cluster of small rooms including a meeting room and executive’s room are divided by a black perforated partition wall. We decided to adopt the open plan to bring in natural light through the south and east windows to illuminate the entire office but wanted to avoid providing monotonous seating where each seat is differentiated solely by the amount of sunlight it receives. Taking advantage of the free-address system, we designed various types of seats with different characters including sun-lit window seats with a view; tall desks where one can work standing up or sitting on a high stool; cubicle-type seats (designed in the same size as typical cubicles in manga cafes in Japan) for those who want to concentrate or work alone, in addition to standard desks and chairs.
The aim of the project is the development of a new building next to the existing Paphos District court building to provide additional court rooms alongside office space. The new building sits in the plot next to the existing court, which was previously used as a car park.
The design aims to create a continuation of the street elevation between the two buildings, inserting like an abstract form, which maintains the general scale of the street and the area and showcase the human scale as well. The proposed building extends lengthwise of the plot, using atriums to allow natural light enter the building.

The boutique minimalist office space designed by Dymitr Malcew for a Japanese investment firm in Singapore.
The main goal was to create a workplace that breaks away from a typical corporate aesthetics and brings in more hospitality oriented experience.
Design is inspired by a Japanese home, however treated with a modern twist and unexpected materials. There is no traditional reception desk, visitors walk into warm and welcoming lobby – the living room of the space.
Children’s World or Detsky mir is the largest children’s goods retailer in Russia. First opened as a department store in 1947, Detsky mir soon expanded into a nationwide chain. Today there are over 700 stores throughout Russia and Kazakhstan.
With expansion came a desire to modernise the work environment, and the company relocated its headquarters to a former printing factory that would facilitate an open layout. The building was constructed in 1978, a rational structure of silicate brick that had an additional wing built on, creating an L-shaped floor plan.
