By imagining, making, communicating, and sharing within the pavilion’s activity spaces on the ground, a bright and open future is revealed in the clouds above. We developed our concept for the pavilion to respond to the idea of communicating, openness, hospitality, and change. Design Partner, Paul Rodgers said: “10 DESIGN’s vision was to create a memorable pavilion that celebrates the country today, and shares the hopes, achievements, and creativity of the future. By removing the pavilion walls, we are removing barriers to interaction, allowing spaces to flow and movement to be fluid and relaxed.”
Mid July 2019 recreational park Qurios Zandvoort opened its doors. The park is situated between the Formula 1 track, the national park Kennemerland and the beach of the town of Zandvoort. It’s also conveniently close to the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam. Because of its unique location the park will attract a very diverse group of guests. From city dwellers to beachgoers and from nature lovers to race fanatics. For the design of the park this meant that it couldn’t be a ‘1 size fits all’ concept and should be able to accommodate this diverse group of guests. The architecture of the park plays a key role in giving meaning and expression to this diversity.
The park accommodates 100 cottages and 2 public pavilions and is designed like a dune park where the sand literally flows against the building. The cottages are situated on plateaus on different heights and all have a different orientation. This creates different atmospheres, sight lines and spatial experiences throughout the compact designed park.
The Pavilion can be adapted, as closely as possible to artistic projects. Its retractable seating allows a frontal or bifrontal stage and, folded, a larger space for performances or exhibitions. The non–elevated wooden stage floor, as well as a large stage opening (from 14 to 19 m), also offers a stage/hall rapport complementary to the other 3 theatre halls, both in terms of gauge and size and type of plateau, between the Charles Apothéloz Hall (386 seats, plateau of 15 x 10 m) and René Gonzales Halls (100 seats, 10 x 14 m) and The Gateway (100 seats, 9 x 8 m).

Exactly one year before the opening of the World Fair in Dubai (Expo 2020), Italy unveils the final design for its national pavilion, conceived by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati, Italo Rota Building Office, matteogatto&associati and F&M Ingegneria. As if docking after a journey by sea, three boats will arrive in Dubai and become the backbone of the pavilion, part of an exploration into recycling, circularity and reconfigurable architecture. The Pavilion will open its doors to the public on October 20th, 2020, in Dubai, U.A.E., and will remain open until April 10th, 2021.
The radical design is based on a circular approach to architecture. Three boats will arrive in Dubai and will be converted into the pavilion’s roofscape. In a similar way, the project integrates sustainable materials – such as orange peels, coffee grounds, mycelium and recycled plastic extracted from the ocean – as construction elements.
The Woodsy Park pavilion in Toronto, Ontario features artwork by Studio Kimiis called “Droplet”. The work consists of wall coverings on the pavilion, an extending canopy, a snow wall and seating. Steven Beites, principal of Studio Kimiis, declares in his artist’s statement that the work will “form a varied yet uniform waterscape across the pavilion. It pays tribute to the area’s most distinguishing feature: the ravine system, and the community activities in and around the pavilion. The work highlights the important connection with the site’s history and its natural setting, and its role in shaping both the physical and social fabrics of the region.” The pavilion was designed in collaboration with DTAH and Spring Valley Corp of Ancaster, Ontario to create a series of ultra high-performance concrete panels across the exterior. The panels were created by using a proprietary ultra-high performance concrete mixture and titanium dioxide to achieve the brilliant white finish.
For Chinese people, garden is the “second nature”. Taking cues from Chinese classical gardens characterized by twists and turns, Towodesign, a design studio excels at deconstructing commercial spaces, created a groundbreaking trade show booth for the flooring brand TREESSUN.
Il Riccio (The Hedgehog) is a pavilion where books are shared. It is built in Piazza Pinto, the central park of Gioia del Colle. Designed by PROFFERLO Architecture, the pavilion functions as an urban landmark where it provides a sheltered space to exchange books.
Il Riccio is dedicated to Michele, a book peddler who played an important role in promoting a culture of reading books within the mid-size town of Gioia Del Colle (Bari) in southern Italy. He sold second-hand books for a few Euros, entertained his customers with stories and advised them on the right choice of book. When he passed away, the local community decided to keep his cultural activity alive with a book sharing facility in the main garden of Gioia del Colle, exactly in the same place as Michele’s stall.
This new opera house is located on Fenyang and Huaihai Road. The building has a great public entrance at the corner of these two important streets of the historical French district. Rather than a massive unique building the opera is built as a sequence of pavilions, following the rhythm and the height of the existing architecture including, on Fenyang road the existing recent building of the conservatory. The color and texture of the pavilions is respecting a brick pattern aspect.
The Marsden Park Pavilion provides change rooms for sports teams, a small kiosk and public toilet facilities for a new suburban community in Marsden Park. The Pavilion serves as an anchor point for a new community, supporting active outdoor play for families and creating a distinct and memorable place to meet.
The Lisbon waterfront is an outstanding environment which is the setting for numerous work and leisure activities. Cultural and tourist attractions bring many visitors to Belém, and they need supporting infrastructures.
