Lantern Ridge House in Kerhonkson, New York by Studio MM Architect

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: Studio MM Architect

Perched at the top of a wooded knoll in the Hudson Valley, the Lantern Ridge House accentuates mountain views while camouflaging itself in the densely forested environment. At night, the typically obscured house becomes a beacon for passing cars and a guiding light for our homeward-bound clients. The home is focused on a single gathering space through which the 2,200 SF structure becomes at once intimate and expansive, private and public. Oriented to face both sunrise and sunset, this hinge point is created by the convergence of two private wings that contain separated accommodations for our clients and their guests. A continuous wood ceiling shelters an exterior deck and the glass façade, which focuses expansive views, connects the clients with the immediate natural environment, and provides a consistently sunlit space.

Article source: v2com

Located on the shore of the Gate Lake, on a slightly sloping land of almost 80 000 pi2, the chalet takes place on the edge of a cedar wood with majestic mature incline trunk trees. Although the footprint of this two-storey building is substantial, because the roof slope follows the landscape the impact of it site integration is minimal.

Article source: The Purple Ink Studio

Design Brief:

The client’s brief saw a strong interest in a “Courtyard House”. Taking the courtyard as a focal point, the entire architecture and the landscape conceptualization revolved around using the feature as a climate responsive design advantage.

The house is conceptualized as a performative architecture and landscape design with a carefully interwoven built-form that strongly responds to the site context.

Saturday, April 25th, 2015

Article source: NC Design & Architecture Limited

Apartment with simulated skylights

An apartment on Stubbs Road is an open and tranquil 2,700 square foot space defined by a 16m long sinuous wood wall, strong axial views lumi-nous ceiling oculi, and special hidden built-in wall features accommodating the specific daily routines of its residents. The residence is structured around a continuous communal area of the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The gentle, undulating grey wood wall unifies these spaces, drawing occupants from the narrow interior kitchen area towards the wide living room with its grand vista of the Happy Valley Race course below. The subtle shades of grey; from gun metal grey to light ash, delicately accentuates this progression while also providing a neutral backdrop for the rich colors of the selected modern Scandinavian furniture.
