The BRICKHAUS in Kerala, India by Srijit Srinivas – ARCHITECTS

Article source: Srijit Srinivas – ARCHITECTS

Structural challenges

Working with exposed brick in itself is a great challenge – a delicate balance between brick work and exposed concrete is important for the aesthetic balance and beauty of the house. The house had to be special everywhere – for example you don’t see a white color contrast lintel at lintel level in this house.

Forrest Street Alterations & Additions in Fremantle, Australia by Philip Stejskal Architecture

Thursday, December 5th, 2019

Article source: Philip Stejskal Architecture

Our clients came to us with a typical Fremantle weatherboard cottage from the 1920, they wanted to remove the 1950s lean to structure and add a substantial renovation

In early design conversations with our clients they noted a difference in their personalities, one an introvert the other an extrovert. To Marty, home was a backdrop for entertaining and about being around friends and family. Whilst for Soo home was a sanctuary where she could find space and time for solitude and an escape from the corporate Monday to Friday environment. It also needed to fulfil their needs as a young family.

The Saguaro, a giant cactus that grows only in the Sonoran Desert, is an instantly recognizable figure of the American Southwest. Its incredibly distinctive form is easily identifiable, even shadowed in silhouette, and, for locals, the beauty of this majestic plant goes beyond its form. The house located in a privileged environment, arises from its implementation in the place. A plot with a steep slope that descends to the east and main views that open to the south. With this starting point the house is deposited in the upper level, supported on a single support that is arranged perpendicular to the mountain. Designed by Francisco Pardo Arquitecto, the Apan Prototype is part of the project “Del Territorio al Habitante” (“From the Territory to the Inhabitant”).
