of businesses.
A newly developed XL formula for Albert Heijn where the focus point is fresh and really good food. With more than 200 quality products added to it’s assortment and staff as “masters” of their departments, this is the market-place where you can find everything you need.
The Triangeln project is large and complex mixed use building with a wide variety of functions including retail, residential, office and parking spaces incorporated in a very limited area. These functions are woven together from a range of different properties and building bodies in a coherent multistory building.
The Huafa Plaza development amalgamates 3 key development sites within the new Hengqin District in Zhuhai. It will accommodate over 300,000sqm of boutique retail, food and beverage facilities, and office space when built with expected construction completion in 2019.
The winning design consists of 3 high rise towers together with 3 boutique retail and F&B environments.
There are many ways to express a brand; It could be a monotonous expression, or a diversified presentation. It is similar to magazine in this regard. A magazine has an unified tonality and values, it starts contact with readers through different contents, but a brand connects to clients through different products. It’s logicality, upgrade ability, and continuity have something in common.
SPARK has completed the design of Gateway One a 71,600-square-metre mixed-use development and transportation hub for China Merchants. Located in Shenzhen South China the 110-metre-high, 27-storey office tower and five retail pavilions are connected by landscaped terraces that combine to create a unique naturally ventilated retail and business destination for the lively Skekou district of the city. The buildings sit over and adjacent to a new transportion hub that includes a bus terminal and the Seaworld subway station.

With a height of 411 meters, the building comes under the high-rise building category of the “super-high skyscrapers” of the CTBUH, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. This means that the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners are putting up their highest building ever on the third plot. Design activities for the first two building plots (A and B) had already started after the gmp master plan obtained first prize in the competition at the beginning of last year. Now the client has also given the go-ahead for the third building plot (C). The site lies to the south-west of the inner city next to the trade exhibition grounds, and is the key project for linking two urban axes of the Hexi New Town development.
KDA redesigned 1,800m2 of luxury goods retail space on the ground floor of Selfridges & Co’s famous Oxford Street store. Finding inspiration in the way stores fit neatly behind the existing architecture of London’s Victorian shopping arcades, and in the notion of wunderkammer – room-sized displays of interesting or exotic objects – KDa created the Wonder Room, a spaced that housed “a luxury goods emporium with the energy of a souk.”
Ginza Place, a major commercial development in Tokyo’s famous Ginza shopping district, occupies arguably the most prominent recent development site in Japan. Ginza’s reputation for elegance and sophistication has made it a center of Japanese culture and commerce for more than a century. Ginza Place completes the neighborhood’s central intersection by introducing a bold and well calculated facade to the streetscape.
Lord & Taylor, founded in 1826, is the oldest specialty department store chain in the country. They built the first suburban department stores, which became models for a new retail typology. In 1953, Lord & Taylor presented an award for independent thinking to Albert Einstein for his “nonconformity” in scientific matters. The company has an especially interesting story to tell in terms of both its history and its connection to high-level architectural design in its department stores. The projects developed under the leadership of Dorothy Shaver with Raymond Loewy provide a rich catalogue of inspiration. The spatial and formal fluidity in these early works was something we looked to rediscover, in particular, for the store in Ridge Hill, both in terms of the building’s relationship to its context as well as the experience of the public.
As the first new L&T store since 2001, our goal was to realize a project that honors the legacy of an iconic and historic partnership in design, both in terms of its architectural and urban presence (evolving the “big box” store) and its technological and design creativity.
