Back of the Yards High School in Chicago, Illinois by STL Architects

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

Article source: STL Architects

This urban high school is organized into three thematic components: body, mind and spirit, that relate to the various programs and activities within the school that compose the curriculum. The site is zoned according to these thematic areas and bars are created, housing the athletics (body), the academy classrooms and teaching spaces (mind), and the library, arts and music (spirit). The bars slide against each other to create outdoor spaces on the site, programmed for specific activities that work in conjunction with the buildings—entry courtyard, athletics fields, and reading garden. The three volumes (body, mind, and spirit) that comprise the school are created by one continuous wall that snakes back and forth through the site.

Sant Miquel Special Education School in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Spain by Pepe Gascón Arquitectura

Wednesday, November 4th, 2015

Article source: Pepe Gascón Arquitectura

Apart from its mere built container, a school is nothing more than a place where teaching and learning take place. This project, therefore, reflects the desire to interact with the city, revealing the flows and activities that occur within the immediate environment of the site.

Article source: Ignacio Quemada Architects

The parcel forms a right-angled triangle. As if it were a child’s game, its design plays with this shape, on top of the leg that adjoins an eight-storey block (yet unbuilt), the “servant spaces” are concentrated along an elongated section.

Lamoricière school in Paris, France by archi5

Friday, October 9th, 2015

Article source: archi5

The planning and design of this refurbishment and extension project is the result of a very careful analysis of the context. The school faced several problems caused by the overlapping uses of space by several programmes, leading to confusion in traffic flow and hindered visibility of the nursery school and its access from Carnot Boulevard.

RAFAL SECONDARY SCHOOL in Alicante, Spain by Grupo Aranea

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

Article source: Grupo Aranea

The project for the Rafal High School was addressed in 2007 as a frontal rejection of the speculative urban sprawl that has been responsible for the rapid disappearance of the fertile agricultural land in the area of Vega Baja, transforming it into a landscape dotted with series of cloned houses totally foreign to this place.
