Article source: Powerhouse Company

Located in the up-and-coming district of Amsterdam Southeast, the new 900m2 pavilion will become an inspiring and stimulating destination for employees on the campus, entrepreneurs, local residents, students and visitors. It will not only be the heart of the campus of ING and a high quality all-day dining option, but also a multifunctional space for the whole community. When completed, the building will play an essential role in this rapidly changing area of Amsterdam. With nearby cultural and education institutions, and the influx of people moving away from the city center, the project location is ideal for engaging people through authentic place-making.

Black Swan in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by Studioninedots

Friday, February 22nd, 2019

Article source: Studioninedots

Studioninedots presents Black Swan, the result of our research into Overamstel’s gradual transition from an industrial area to a characteristic, mixed-use district in Amsterdam.

All over the Netherlands, mono-functional industrial sites are designated as potential densification areas. Their often generous layout allows for specific interventions to generate the aimed urban density. With Black Swan we propose a design as well as a strategy for welcoming, bit by bit, housing and facilities to a permanently active work area.

Black Swan’s medium-rise tower is home to both workspaces and apartments; its base functions to facilitate creative offices, restaurant, bar and culture. At street level, Black Swan interacts with the existing Building B of the adjoining Kauwgomballenfabriek socially and energetically. Here, the pioneering residents and users collectively take care of the spaces within and around Black Swan.

Crowdberry Offices in Bratislava, Slovakia by JURAJ TESÁK ARCHITEKT

Sunday, February 17th, 2019

Article source: JURAJ TESÁK ARCHITEKT

Crowdberry is the first crowd – investment platform in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Their goal is to create an alternative segment of investing in local companies with global reach, bringing together innovative and functional companies with private investors. Their offices therefore had to provide room for meeting, presenting interesting ideas, and common discussion about the projects.

We had a great trust from them, and the cooperation went smoothly. In the first phase, we had to decide how big the whole space needs to be.  Many varations of the size of offices and their disposition were considered and discussed.

Hotel LN Garden in Nansha, China by Studio 3LHD

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

Article source: Studio 3LHD

Located in southern China’s Guangdong province, on the Zhu Jiang (Pearl River) estuary, the LN Garden is part of the Nansha Seaside Park. The hotel has a surface of 61068 m2 and 365 rooms. The building forms a unique entity with the surrounding landscape – the shaded and sunny elements of the design (water, lawns and paved surfaces) rhythmically form the spatial dynamics. The main public space of the hotel has a view to the beautiful bay to the west and Seaside Park on the east side of the hotel. Two vertical lobbies and a dominant water feature allow for a gentle flow of space. The transition between outdoor areas and interior spaces is softened by the use of exterior vegetation throughout the lobby.

Pernod Ricard Offices in Gurugram, India by Ultraconfidentiel

Tuesday, February 12th, 2019

Article source: Ultraconfidentiel

The challenge with Pernod Ricard was to bring conviviality into the office space. By redesigning the traditional workplace as an open space, the premises have become the preferred grounds for workshops, collaboration and relaxation. The space adapts to every way of working, balancing connection and disconnection, shifting between quiet places to focus and collaborative areas, thereby meeting each employee’s needs. It is a convergence center for social innovation, a place-based hub of ideas, people, and strategies.

Oodi Helsinki Central Library in Finland by ALA Architects

Monday, February 11th, 2019

Article source: ALA Architects

Oodi represents a new era of libraries. The newly completed building in the heart of Helsinki consists almost entirely of public space and offers a wide selection of services. It will become the new central point for the city’s impressive public library network.

The design divides the functions of the library into three distinct levels: an active ground floor, a peaceful upper floor, and an enclosed in-between volume containing the more specific functions. This concept has been developed into an arching form that invites people to utilize the spaces and services underneath, inside and on top of it. The resulting building is an inspiring and highly functional addition to the urban life of Helsinki and the Töölönlahti area.
