Memphis Teacher Residency in Tennessee by archimania

Sunday, September 30th, 2018

Article source: archimania

A faith-based, non-profit organization required a new space for recruitment, training, and supporting teachers through an urban teacher residency graduate program. Their new space is positioned between a public, large central atrium and more intimate atrium of a multi-million square foot vertical village (previously a large distribution warehouse.) Their new home is made up of three functions: staff offices, flexible training rooms, and community areas for breaks and collaboration. The space is also open to a large private terrace with outdoor seating for small meetings or to recharge throughout the day.

Lecture Theatres for ‘Universite Descartes’ in Paris, France by AZC

Thursday, September 27th, 2018

Article source: AZC

Context and Challenges

This project for two 200-seat lecture theatres and a series of teaching spaces provided the opportunity to effectively transform a courtyard at the centre of a city block. The project reveals the site’s urban potential for its users, neighbours, visitors or passers-by, and responds to a need for simplicity and coherence, with a mix of functional logic and aesthetics.
The heart of the block at 143 Avenue de Versailles in western Paris’s smart 16th arrondissement belongs to the Université Paris Descartes. Its formerly cluttered appearance was due to the number of buildings and structures that had accumulated above the one-storey car park that filled the whole courtyard. The key to the space’s transformation was to make it functional and to enhance it.

Neue Mitte Perlach in Munich, Germany by AllesWirdGut

Tuesday, September 25th, 2018

Article source: AllesWirdGut

Strong Basis

With their design of the Perlach Plaza, AlleswirdGut provide an important puzzle stone in the urban development of the new “KulturQuadrat” quarter on Munich’s Hanns Seidel Square. An urban mixed use of retail and service businesses, restaurants, residential units, and a hotel make Perlach Plaza the calling card of the new Neuperlach neighborhood.

At the heart of the master plan is a roughly 5,000 square meter central park enclosed, and shielded, by buildings. On a total gross floor area of 50,000 square meters, high-quality usable floor space is being developed in the mixed-used complex of Perlach Plaza with direct connection to the subway system, the cultural center on the north side, and the park through a transit floor.

Qatar National Library in Doha by OMA

The Library

The physical impact of books has been important in terms of my entire formation. The first books that fascinated me were the fairy tales of Grim illustrated by Gustave Doré. I still remember the physical nature of those books as one of the strongest memories of my entire life. In the 1950s I would spend time in the library of the Stedelijk Museum – almost like in a living room. My first intersection of writing and architecture was Delirious New York, which I wrote in the New York Public Library, going through microfilms, old newspapers, and books. I made one particular seat my own, almost day and night.

Article source: TATÚ Arquitectura

Client:

The client is a young couple with two small children, the order: their first house built, own, made to measure and for life. They wanted a house of “unique space” integrated and flexible on the ground floor. A large kitchen, a living room with double height, a wild space that at times could operate as a desk, be daily or projection of the living room to expand your area in special events. An interior patio and an isolated battery of services. Upstairs the private rooms highlighting the main room above the rest, with en suite bathroom, dressing room and own terrace.

Hostel in Parede, Portugal by Aurora Arquitectos + FURO

Tuesday, September 18th, 2018

Article source: Aurora Arquitectos + FURO

The interior of this building was in a state of ruin but, despite that, its roof was still standing. Its complex geometry, with four corner pyramidal volumes, determined the project structure and interior partitions, dividing the plan into 9 modules. In the centre module, a staircase joins the three floors, contaminating the space with its yellow glow and natural light coming from above. Its drastically rounded corners carry, in a hidden way, all the building’s vertical services.
