Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre and the College of Fine Arts Production Center in Boston, Massachusetts by Elkus Manfredi Architects

Thursday, March 19th, 2020

Article source: Elkus Manfredi Architects

This multifunctional studio theatre with production and support spaces provides Boston University’s internationally acclaimed School of Theatre with a 21st-century learning environment for collaboration and experimentation. Collocated on BU’s Charles River Campus with the rest of the College of Fine Arts for the first time in decades, the theatre creates a new era of engagement for the University community, the Town of Brookline, and area residents. With its dramatically reflective façade framed by a delicate concrete scrim, the 75,000-square-foot theatre complex delights and instructs, giving architectural form to Hamlet’s injunction to the players “to hold, as ‘twere, the mirror up to nature.”

A dramatic presence on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston University’s Booth Theatre provides a 21st-century learning environment for collaboration and experimentation with its multifunctional studio theatre and production center. Hosting the newly collocated theatre arts program, the new center is enveloped in a first-of-its-kind pre-cast concrete scrim that evokes the frame of a proscenium theatre, while the lobby’s mirror-like 47-foot glass curtainwall cants forward 14 degrees, reflecting the city scene, Image Courtesy © Robert Benson

Article source: E8 Architecture

Commissioned and built by luxury developer, Regal London, in partnership with Simon Bowden Architecture, this ten-storey residential building delivers 49 apartments in one of London’s most prestigious suburbs; St John’s Wood.

The surrounding area is characterized by mid 20th Century mansion blocks, the nicest of which are in the Art Deco style. Our design drew inspiration from the Art Deco form, the curved bays are one of the building’s signature features. Also, the imprint of a leaf motif is a modern interpretation of the Deco pattern with its precise geometry and clear lines.

Contribute To A New Polarity

Located across from the St-Etienne station on the Esplanade de France, the influence of the intervention at the heart of the ZAC Châteaucreux is a link between neighborhoods and horizon lines, a low point in the topography of St-Etienne in front of a preferred route to the city center. Combined with the scale of the project and the symbolic value of the program, this unique location gives the project a special status in the construction of the city.

Visitors Center Ein Keshatot – Umm el-Kanatir in Natur, Israel by Raz Architects

Monday, February 24th, 2020

Article source: Raz Architects

Here the visitor moves back and forth across spaces, between the constant evolving seasons of nature and its integration within the architect’s symbiotic approach. Between the outdoor spectacle of the archeological site, emerges out of the volcanic soil and the relaxed, soft design characterizes the facilitated indoor area. The visitor moves also across times.

This site bridges over more than fifteen hundred years of historical significance. It mediates between an ancient site of religious worship and its possible interpretations within the contemporary political context of Israel’s efforts to reconstruct its national identity.
