Vives university college – campus Bruges in Belgium by SAR architecten

Sunday, November 8th, 2015

Article source: SAR architecten

In the Middle Ages, Bruges had two big ambitions: to have a sea port and a university, fine ambitions that the magnificent old city could barely realize despite its many efforts. During history Antwerp and Ghent took over the leading roles in those matters and Bruges became during three centuries ‘Bruges la morte’. However at the end of the 20th century Bruges is the 3rd seaport of the BENELUX, and in 2009 the VIVES University College was built, associated to the well known ‘University of Louvain’.

Pedestrian & cyclist bridge Expo 2015 in Milan, Italy by Studio PP8

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Studio PP8

The footbridge by studio PP8 was created as part of the city of Milan’s ongoing urban plan. The steel structure crosses the A8 motorway at Arese, giving a safe passage to pedestrians and cyclists to the Milan expo area. The footbridge is composed of cross steel tubes, with corrugated steel slabs on two levels, one for foot traffic and the other for bikers. To avoid uncomfortable acceleration produced by running people it was inserted a TMD (Tuned Mass Daper) just under the corrugated steel slab, in the middle of the main span.
