The administrative building of the Federal University of Ceará´s campus in Crateús municipality is the first of its set of blocks provided by the master plan of this academic unit. The building has a dual function: to host the administrative part of the set and to serve as a gateway to the campus, thus determining the shape of the building, which is split by a shift in its floorplan that separates a stretch and closed part from the other, open and fluid.

The connection of rowing, art and music contains surprising similarities such as rhythm, flow, and movement. The goal was to create an architectural spirit that embodies the similarities shared by these three disciplines. We hope you see the abstract connections in the architectural form and light. Some connections are quiet and some connections are bold. Imagine a song inspired by rowing. It would be a composition cooler than the far side of the pillow.
This is a remodelling project of a Kyomachi-ya, a traditional Kyoto house, constructed over 80 years ago.
At first, it was a Kyomachi-ya that has been painted multiple times due to refurbishments in the last 80 years. Firtstly, for returning it to the original form, the paints were scraped off. Then, to be able to provide the minimal needs for living in a house, a white box has been placed in the building. The coexistence of the newly placed white box and the historical elements of the Kyomachi-ya, as a background, emphasizes the contrast of the old and the new, and lets the memories of the building possessed with in the flow of time surrounds the space.
Woodland is near the River Yar and lies within the Causeway Conservation Area. The site was purchased by a retired couple who have made the island their home. Although anxious to preserve the character of the Causeway they wanted to replace an existing timber cottage with a more open dwelling and a new garden. Crucially, they also wanted to be unobserved by passers by.
National Grid’s HQ, National Grid House, on the outskirts of Warwick, within view of the Historic Castle, houses some 2800 staff. It is operational 24 hours a day, every day of the year and is a site which controls and is critical to the power distribution infrastructure in the UK. National Grids commitment to sustainability in all their undertakings has meant that the brief for a new car park on this site would always lead to something extraordinary – with the car park now finished it has literally come alive.
This project is the result of some unconsciousness mixed with a lot of admiration. The unconsciousness came from the side of the clients, Neus and Kenji of Can Kenji team, commissioning his new Japanese restaurant “izakaya” to a team that had never designed a restaurant and not even been in Japan. The admiration is ours to a culture as unknown as admired.
The Maison du Savoir is both an icon of the future and a reminder of the past. Conceived and constructed by baumschlager eberle in cooperation with Christian Bauer & Associés Architectes as the focal point of the new University of Luxembourg campus, the building is a striking and highly visible landmark. What was once the site of a steel plant in the Belval district of Esch-sur Alzette is now the centrepiece of the new Cité des Sciences.
