Restored and refurbished by Aedas, Raffles Hotel Singapore has officially reopened in August 2019 since its opening in 1887. Aedas lead a multi-disciplinary team for the hotel restoration, including heritage consultant Studio Lapis, interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud and concept interior designer Jouin Maku (BBR Restaurant by Chef Alain Ducasse).It integrates heritage splendor with modern spatial design, restoring the building back to its original glory and aiming to restore its vitality for the next 100 years.
Located in Shanghai Jing An Kerry Centre, Heytea stands as the first F&B along the leisure street between the mall’s south-north connection, covered with a double height curtain wall and outdoor seating area along the sidewalk.
The former shop window facade system is replaced by an open and interactive interface that blurs inner and outer space. Sliding doors, double-sided seating, along with a recessed quick-resting place on the main facade, each part of the facade is made to maximise space utility, which also enriches streetscape activity and brand influence.
London based architecture practice AI studio has received planning approval for a mixed-use tower in Latvian capital Riga, which has been designed in collaboration with local office DoStudio.
The 18,000 square metre mixed-use development will occupy a triangular site next to Skonto football stadium, just outside the Old Town of Riga (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and adjacent to historic Riga Fire Station. The design will feature class A office spaces, ground floor retail opportunities and a rooftop restaurant, in addition to creating a public area in front of the building.
Take one imposing building, consisting of three separate areas, serving a very diverse clientele, and turn it into one giant living area that caters to the need of all. That, in a nutshell, was the challenge in renovating Amsterdam’s Hotel Casa.
Founded in the late 1950s to help solve the housing shortage for students, Casa has always been a hybrid of sorts, serving as the (temporary) home of hotel guests, locals, student residents and people attending a board meeting or conference. In 2010 Casa moved to a new building but the concept stayed the same. Recent plans to renovate and modernise the convention center turned into a complete overhaul of both public and conference areas.
In the new design connectivity was key. There’s one central space for all visitors to enjoy. The focus lies less on specific functions like bar, restaurant or check-in area.
More than just a screen for privacy and sun-protection, the concrete brise-soleil captures and intensifies nature along the perimeter of the house – a series of lush, landscaped verandahs immediately adjacent to the indoor spaces. Birmingham-based ArchitectureWorks worked closely with Cayenne Creative in the development of a space fueled by the power of communication and collaboration and that promotes people, passion, and ideas.
The name, Opeongo, derives from the Anishnaabe wordopeauwingauk (sandy narrows); it refers to Canada’s Indigenous people and their deep love for nature. The Opeongo Pavilion is located in Parc du Mont-Orford, a true gem amid lakes, mountains, and forest, an hour drive from Montréal.

The Club is located in Chuhe Han Street in the Wuhan Central Cultural District, which has a total length of 1.5 kilometres. In the daytime, the street is known for its many branded fashion stores and some of the world’s top cultural projects. At night, the street is transformed with bright lights and catchy music.
Clinging to the side of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, a Spanish Colonial Revival style house has been transformed by architecture firm The Ranch Mine into the ‘Red Rocks’ residence, a dwelling that creates and elevates a variety of experiences with both the natural and man-made environment.
When the homeowners approached Claire and Cavin Costello of The Ranch Mine to redesign their mountainside home, they were frustrated by the thick columns that interrupted the views, the heavy clay tile roofs and dark beams, and the floor plan that focused more on a ceremonial entry than the indoor/outdoor lifestyle they craved. It was clear very quickly to the design duo that although the Spanish Colonial Revival style can be beautiful in the right situations, the style of this home was repressing the potential of the site, or more simply put, the house was style over substance.
The new multi-functional educational centre for the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm is a 3.600 m² flexible learning laboratory especially created for building designers and constructional engineers, while also accessible to the rest of the KTH Campus.
The numerous spaces of the KTH Educational Building create a diverse house with large, bright, small, quiet, transparent, loud, sloping, underground, light and dark spaces. It offers great conditions for conferences, exhibitions, group work, blackboard teaching, socialising, setting up mock-ups and much more. Moreover, by combining these options in different ways, the users of the building can continuously develop the creative teaching and learning environment of the building.
