Timber Pavilion of the Vidy-Lausanne Theatre in Lausanne, Switzerland by Yves Weinand Architectes sàrl + Atelier Cube

Saturday, May 2nd, 2020

Article source: Yves Weinand Architectes sàrl + Atelier Cube

A Modular And Complementary Theatre Hall

The Pavilion can be adapted, as closely as possible to artistic projects. Its retractable seating allows a frontal or bifrontal stage and, folded, a larger space for performances or exhibitions. The non–elevated wooden stage floor, as well as a large stage opening (from 14 to 19 m), also offers a stage/hall rapport complementary to the other 3 theatre halls, both in terms of gauge and size and type of plateau, between the Charles Apothéloz Hall (386 seats, plateau of 15 x 10 m) and René Gonzales Halls (100 seats, 10 x 14 m) and The Gateway (100 seats, 9 x 8 m).

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020

Article source: v•om architecture & design

This project is the renovation of a restaurant in a small town of La Mancha, Spain. The recent acquisition by the owner of an attached store allows for an extension to host storage and direct access for goods to the street. The dining area is then expanded taking the space of the old storage, maintaining its structure and roof, and natural light is let in through a double height space that maintains some of the original elements, such as fireplace and staircase. The main layout of the old restaurant is mainly maintained but some minor changes have a huge impact in circulations, light treatment and functionality.

Land Rover Regional Offices in Shanghai, China by FGP Atelier

Friday, February 21st, 2020

Article source: FGP Atelier

The Land Rover Regional Offices in Shanghai was driven by 3 primary ideas: 1) creating a porous urban environment; 2) creating a showroom space for a car company that would, in turn, create a contrast between the scale of the buildings; and, 3) introducing a dynamic façade to achieve a building without automated systems. In realizing these goals, it became apparent that the two towers had to be in the opposite corners of the site and that the shorter pavilions had to fill in the area in-between. The façade utilized parametric tools to transform inspiration from bamboo forests into a complex frit pattern. In the end, the buildings interact dynamically with the changing atmosphere of Shanghai and are in a constant state of metamorphosis.

Japs! cucina giapponese – Dante in Turin, Italy by lamatilde

Monday, July 15th, 2019

Article source: lamatilde

Concept

Opposites rule: light and darkness create an ideal separation, so the same space can serve the two souls in Japs! – fast and slow. This was a 360° project that went from interior decor to branding, connecting every aspect: for example, the decorative motif in the logo became a graphic and architectural element, in a relationship of perfect symmetry between image and architecture. Now each Japs! restaurant offers a different Japanese specialty, effectively connoting the chain’s different venues and sparking clients’ curiosity.

Article source: GRAFT GmbH

After two decades of infrastructural and urban development, China is now also expanding rapidly in the tourism sector. To promote faster growth, the Chinese government declared several “tourism formation zones”. One of these is the area around the spectacular Changbai volcano in the province Jilin, adjoining the border to North Korea. The region is dominated by vast forests that extend as far as Siberia. The permafrost between November and April makes the area a potential tourist mecca for winter sports.
