Hazza Bin Zayed (HBZ) Stadium in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates by Pattern Architects

The newly completed HBZ Stadium is the home of Al Ain Football Club, one of the leading clubs in the UAE Pro League. Designed by Pattern Architects, the 25 000 seat FIFA class football stadium introduces a new approach to sports architecture in the Gulf region by embedding Al Ainʼs identity into the very fabric of the design. Part of this identity is defined by the local desert climate and landscape.

Guggenheim Helsinki Museum in Finland by LPzR architetti associati & Principioattivo architecture group

The skyline of the Guggenheim Helsinki Museum emerges as a sequence of soft golden waves undulating in the harbor.

To the north the volumes are low, to avoid shading the public realm and not to overlook the Palace Hotel; then they rise rapidly and decrease in the center of the building; towards the park the waves rise again and fall to the south, where they find a perfect balance with the harbor’s public realm. There’s a central slope between north and south so that the volume does not interfere with the main views from the park Tähtitornin Vuori, the Helsinki Cathedral and the Uspenski Cathedral.

Molise Headquarters by Paolo Venturella Architecture

The site area for the project takes place on two different levels on an abandoned soccer playground and  an higher square. The building is positioned parallel to the main street in front so to align with the context grid of the city and along the north side to avoid shading on the site.

Autobahn Church in Siegerland, Wilnsdorf by schneider+schumacher

In March 2009 schneider+schumacher won a competition run by the Förderverein Autobahnkirche Siegerland e.V, which was founded for the specific purpose of establishing an Autobahn church.

The initiative for this project came from Hanneliese and Hartmut Hering, after having visited an Autobahn church in south Germany. Just one glance at the map revealed that a place like this was lacking in the entire Siegerland area, and consequently also along the very busy A 45.

Unilux Group lighting showroom in LEBANON by SOMA Architects

With 20 meters of frontage but only 4 meters of depth, the existing ground floor space provided a unique opportunity for a commercial street front fit for a lighting showroom. The client, Unilux Group – the largest supplier of high end light fixtures in Lebanon, requested a unique space in which to exhibit the products sold by the company. Due to the shallow depth of the existing main space, a conscious decision was made to envision the space as larger than its confines of the walls in order to visually appear larger as well as draw pedestrians into the store.

    • Rhinoceros 3d + Grasshopper an advanced computational modeling tool. We used optimization algorithms to reduce the types of components, the software calculated the length of each flower box side reducing the number of variations. The parametric approach was crucial to find the best oriented production design.The roar was thus chosen as base module, in that it offered a good coverage of the space whilst optimizing the number of components. The base modules are six, from 0.5 sqm to 3 sqm, formed by the combination of 4 different cuts which then compose the sides of the planters, 8 different nodes with as many optimized variations for the joining of the elements. The result is a total area of 300 square meters, consisting of 50 modules and 90 nodal elements.
