The power plant illustrate the energy of water and its dynamics. The conciseness and the rhythm of forms was developed by the creatures of water, hydraulic rollers, cavitation appearances and overflow principles. Although pressed by such a regime Under such regime the required massive statics could still be designed in a sparkling and elegant way, creating a popular public zone upon the river Salzach. Sebastopol Barn House in California by ANDERSON ANDERSON ARCHITECTURE

Sunday, February 1st, 2015

Article source: ANDERSON ANDERSON ARCHITECTURE

The classic barn form of the Sebastopol Barn House is the result of an historic timber frame structure dismantled in upstate New York, cleaned, cataloged and refurbished in Texas, and planned for relocation in the wine country of Northern California. The interior enclosed living spaces within the barn form are carefully designed to preserve the massive open space of the frame, weaving in and out of the existing timbers as a simple background of folding white planes, highlighting the special wood and joinery, and gathering the mysterious light, shadow, and spatial tracery of the floating beams and columns. All new elements of the architecture are constructed of simple materials, painted white, so that only the barn frame itself is highlighted. The pure form of the barn exterior is counterpoised with a low concrete wing cut into the hillside, locking the barn into its meadow landscape with simply formed outdoor courtyard living spaces formed by the two wings.

Guggenheim Helsinki Museum in Finland by LPzR architetti associati & Principioattivo architecture group

Saturday, January 31st, 2015

Article source: LPzR architetti associati & Principioattivo architecture group

The skyline of the Guggenheim Helsinki Museum emerges as a sequence of soft golden waves undulating in the harbor.

To the north the volumes are low, to avoid shading the public realm and not to overlook the Palace Hotel; then they rise rapidly and decrease in the center of the building; towards the park the waves rise again and fall to the south, where they find a perfect balance with the harbor’s public realm. There’s a central slope between north and south so that the volume does not interfere with the main views from the park Tähtitornin Vuori, the Helsinki Cathedral and the Uspenski Cathedral.

Autobahn Church in Siegerland, Wilnsdorf by schneider+schumacher

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

Article source: schneider+schumacher

In March 2009 schneider+schumacher won a competition run by the Förderverein Autobahnkirche Siegerland e.V, which was founded for the specific purpose of establishing an Autobahn church.

The initiative for this project came from Hanneliese and Hartmut Hering, after having visited an Autobahn church in south Germany. Just one glance at the map revealed that a place like this was lacking in the entire Siegerland area, and consequently also along the very busy A 45.
