HEADQUARTERS STORE in WROCŁAW, Poland by BudCud

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

Article source: BudCud

Street-wear store is located on the ground floor of a historic tenement house in the city centre of Wroclaw (PL). Shape of an existing volume became a major inspiration and an impulse to design Headquarters Store as an abstract landscape. Arches and gates from steel pipes, filled with glass panels, reinterpret contours of existing barrel vaults and deform standard clothes hanger. Contour objects – together with simple white furniture from medium-density fiberboard – create additional subspaces inside a boutique.

Passive House in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic by Echorost architekti

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

Article source: Echorost architekti

The house was designed for the old couple, whose main demands were low maintenance/operation costs and distribution of main rooms to the ground floor.
It was the specific shape of the plot which set a boundary of the house and together with structural constraints also defined a resulting geometry of the house. The geometry was based on a consistent extrusion of the house boundary. The proposal took into account also an option that clients could buy up the neighbouring plots. This came true during the construction of the house. The design of the house was optimized for the lowest energy demand while keeping other design demands (e.g. possibility to use the first floor as a second flat). Therefore the house met the passive house criteria and among else qualified for the appropriate government subsidy.

Saturday, July 6th, 2013

Article source: Mikou Studio

Jean Lurçat Collège in Saint Denis is at the junction of two basic fabrics: one landscape and one cityscape. An area of scattered low-rise detached housing which is unstructured but constitutes the neighbourhood’s identity and presents a friendly human scale on Rue Diderot and Rue d’Alembert. The Parc des Sports which opens onto the La Courneuve landscaped park and provides the school with an open perspective and a strong link with green spaces and gardens of the city. The school is both in the middle of nature surrounded by greenery and very near to the low-rise housing around it.

In this country, density is not limited and the program quickly takes on an exceptional scale: 450,000 m² are planned for offices, apartments, a hotel, a cinema, and a commercial center. The challenge becomes how to successfully create such a massive program adjacent to a historic monument.
