La Vela in Thailand by Time Architecture Co., Ltd.

Tuesday, February 12th, 2019

Article source: Time Architecture Co., Ltd.

Project La Vela is a new development with 181 guest rooms,2 restaurants, a spa, a beach club and a large swimming pool.  What is unique about the project is its unusual land site which appears to be two large separated areas joined by a 10-meter wide walkway. The project is located on an 8th century trading route, a fact which inspired the development’s creative layout.

The project architect chose a triangular-shaped configuration where the lines connecting the three vertices represent strength and connectivity and suggest the sightings of stars which travelers used as reference when traveling at night. Such sight delineations are useful to sense the ‘space’ and ‘place’ of vast areas.  Moreover, when multiple triangular shapes are layered over one another, they accentuate a sense of greater connectivity between different areas and expose spaces that were once hidden from view.

Article source: StudioArte

An actual interpretation of the Mediterranean Modernist Architecture in a balanced fusion with Portuguese Cubist Architecture references. A pure white minimalistic contemporary family house located at Quinta dos Salicos, Carvoeiro, Algarve (Portugal). Based on a natural organic layout design, the main shape (trapezoidal) of the building is following the plot’s itself shape and directing the different facades for the most efficient, sunny and pleasant views, in a constant open visual and physical relation between indoor and outdoor spaces (natural fusion).

A concept with pure straight lines, uniform colors (white), flat roofing (living terraces) and volumes shaped by the irregular angles and defined by the relation between light/shade over the irregular volumes setting. Jerini House in Bajčići, Croatia by Branka Juras, Architectural Design Studio

Monday, February 4th, 2019

Article source: Branka Juras, Architectural Design Studio

In this project there is a conflict between two necessary requirements, in other words between the necessity to preserve our architectural inheritance and the necessity to develop modern architecture. Our towns and villages are neither to petrify as museums nor to lose their character due to a total lack of regard for old buildings. Resolving this is not easy.

It is important for us to ask right questions at the right place, to know that the architectural quality of a building is not sufficient for succesful integration, and what is decisive in the quality of the relationship produced between old and new.

Villa Monoi in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica by OsArq

Sunday, February 3rd, 2019

Article source: OsArq

Villa Monoi is a holiday home at the southern end of Playa Tamarindo located in the province of Guanacaste Costa Rica. This zone of Costa Rica belongs to an area of the most arid country affected by a pronounced dry season lasting one third of the year. The flora and fauna belong to the dry tropical forest and the region in general suffers from occasional droughts and water scarcity. The house is introverted since its location does not allow for the enjoyment of exterior views more than the groves of a green area contiguous to the property in the middle of a residential development.

Pomarino House in Bolivia by Sommet S.R.L.

Wednesday, January 30th, 2019

Article source: Sommet S.R.L.

The Pomarino house stands in a corner that meets the two principal streets that organize the gated community in which it is located. This “L” shaped house opens itself to its neighbors in order to take advantage of the views in every possible angle. Since privacy wasn´t an issue for the house´s owners, we decided to locate the swimming pool in the most visible corner, in order to expose the house´s design and open it to its surroundings.
