The site is situated in a 40-acre coffee estate in Chikkamagalur at the foothills of Mullahangiri Hills, overlooking the valley beyond and the town on Chikmagalur. With a mesmerizing natural backdrop for each built form, the development comprises of a Clubhouse, Single Villas, Twin Villas, a Spa, a restaurant and a Tree house plus other ancillary facilities.
The project deals with the idea of blurring the boundaries between inside and outside, such that the building becomes one with nature. The challenge in this project was to insert built forms into the existing landscape and blurring the edge seamlessly like a graft. The landscape is treated as a visual and tactile element. The built form responds to both the immediate site context as well as to that of the hill station. The surfaces of the buildings are rendered with earthy and rustic materials to accentuate their contemporary forms. Local materials available on site are extensively used to not only help the architecture blend with the context, but also make the project sustainable.
Architecture approaches nature by rearranging its elements. In Casa Chaaltun, this conformation was an attempt to evoke and interpret the natural and cultural context of the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico, challenging the mainstream perception and common use of its natural materials.
To adapt the program into the lot’s geometry, it was divided into three zones: private, social and services; the volumes were designed accordingly. Four volumes are connected by a main long axis, which is the project’s spine. Two of them are solid, facing south and west, solving the privacy and, at the same time, it protects the interior and shadows the others. The remaining volumes are lightly floating, generating a double height ceiling in the ground level, facing to the northeast.

The location, on a small hill, is privileged. The longitudinal field is open to the south and the view of mountain Youhtas. -How can a linear residence deal with the intense cretan light? The house necessarily unfolds along the south side, the side of the sun: through a double curvature the building is bend by the power of the sun’s path from east to west.
A single-family residence on a narrow site, this stunning home built for entertaining, features a unique lap-pool abutting a double height social space which spills out to the rear BBQ area. Living green wall screens to the front and side façades provide privacy and a sense of retreat.
The clients’ brief was for a home which could be both a springboard for entertaining and a private family retreat. The site constraints and the practice’s commitment to passive solar design and natural daylighting drove much of the resulting form.
La Grange Pavilion was created as part of a landscape intervention for a house perched on a bluff overlooking the forest and farmland of Colorado River basin seventy miles east of Austin. Surrounding views offer a quintessential display of central Texas wildlife and landscape: songbirds chirping in gnarled oaks on the bluff, hawks and buzzards spiraling on warm updrafts, morning mists in the valley below dissolving in the heat of the day, and ending with the long shadows of a low sun or the dramatic colors of an overcast sunset. The homeowners envisioned an outdoor patio area that would enable them to enjoy this incredible landscape throughout the year.
This semi-detached house is detached from its façade and party wall to create courtyard spaces that allow light, ventilation and private views. At the front, an almost blank brick wall conceals these spaces and the front door is similarly hidden in a timber wall. A swimming pool runs along the side and front creating a tranquil oasis for the house. The timber staircase overhangs the pool and its covered by a glass and timber pergola that runs along the length of the house. Upstairs the gardens continue into two more courtyards which two bedrooms and a study look into.

In this ambiance, Mecanismo conceived a precise project of design and construction of the hotel. The accurate selection of materials, furniture and the detailed execution distinguishes Hotel Akelarre; the materials as the link between concept, form and function. The use of natural resources and whilst materials; stone, wood and linen respect the inner nature and properties in the process, as well as, contemplating the advances of investigation and new techniques for their manipulation and induction, that characterizes the project and studio itself.
Tianshan Gate of the World is a large-scale urban mixed-use project in the new city centre of Shijiazhuang. Plots 27 and 28 feature a 450-metre tall International Finance Center with a commercial amenity podium, a 150-metre medical tower, eight 100-metre serviced apartment towers, eight 100-200 metres tall Grade-A office towers and a central 600-metre long retail street.
The concept for the Barrington Residence, a single family home designed by Eric Rosen Architects completed in April of 2015, was derived from the site and context, the client’s desire for an indoor/outdoor living experience afforded by the southern California climate and inspiration from noted artist Gordon Matta-Clark’s Splitting.
The LD residence is situated in Nova Lima, a mountanious town neighbour to Belo Horizonte, Brasil. The building site has an average 34 degrees transversal inclination and 12 degrees in the longitudinal direction, with 3400 square meters.
By situating the main part of the residence in the longitutinal direction, it was possible to create a more harmonious implantation on the site, thus avoidind giant walls and disproportionate structures, which is quite common in the neighbourhood.
