SPARK has completed Arte S a residential development located at Jalan Bukit Gambier near the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. The project consists of a pair of condominium towers containing 460 apartments. The tallest tower is 180m, the buildings together comprise the tallest “twin tower” development on the island.
The client Nusmetro, a Malaysian property developer commissioned SPARK Architects to design the building and its landscape.
The towers’ flowing form was inspired by the dramatic topography of Penang Island.
Client’s Vision: A modern, open design with minimal barriers to capture the stunning desert and mountain views.
Design Approach: Dynamic simplicity expressed in Modern design elements that allow the natural desert to become an integral part the interior living experience.
Elegant minimalism drives the choice of rectangular, sand‐finished stucco walls, ceramic panel accents, and a rectangular flying roof over the Patio and Front Entry supported with thin columns. Floor to ceiling window walls provide extraordinary views of the desert and mountains beyond the Pool and Spa.
The hotel is situated in Surat Thani province. Its design concept—Tropical Surreal—was inspired by Surat Thani’s very own milieu. The design team embarked on the project treating the architectural structure as a cube with overlapping areas of varying functions and perspectives.
Hotel Front Entrance
From the front view, the design was inspired by the abundance of coconut trees in Surat Thani province. The “Tropical Forest”—green, slanted lines—against the architecture reflects the origin of the project’s name, Comet. From the entrance, passersby will be able to see the motions in the lobby area. Similarly on the second floor in the all-day dining area, guests will see the change of movements that metamorphoses throughout time once they stroll into the front hall. Lava stone is used to exhibit the South’s ample mineral.
A wide, single storey house, which should be well illuminated, ventilated, opened to the garden and also have privacy from the neighbors. In addition, it should become two independent homes, one for the oldest son and the other for the rest of the family. These were the requestes from our clients when they searched for our office.
Safdie Architects marks a major construction milestone in China with the completion of Eling Residences in Chongqing. Eling Residences are spread across the highest plateau of Eling Hill, adjacent to Chongqing’s well-known Eling Park and overlooking the Yuzhong Peninsula—the central point of the Chongqing municipality—and the Yangtze River.
The intervention involved the refurbishment of a recently built mansion on Ibiza hills, in the Es Cubells area.
The project had to deal with the existing structures, that were characterised by a geometrical architecture, composed by overlapping variable cubic volumes; they were also lacking a coherent architectural oversight and a flowing link between spaces, though.

Located on Malta’s East coast, Paceville has developed over the past 50 years as the island’s tourist and entertainment centre, accommodating new projects that address this continued growth.
Established as a cluster of holiday homes in the early 20th Century and developed into a major tourist hub from the 1960’s, Paceville is at the heart of St Julian’s in Malta where many of the island’s restaurants, bars, nightclubs, casinos and marina are located, together with international hotels including the Hilton, Le Meridien, InterContinental and Westin.
This 3,200 square-foot residence was created for ‘Summering’ in the Hamptons and occasional off-season weekends. It’s meant to be a ‘family place’ to enjoy the natural beauty of the setting and to entertain. The design is an example of casual modernism – much like contemporary homes in California – with clean lines, strong indoor-outdoor connections, and a modern interior. A breezeway bridges the parking side of the house with the living side and further acts as a point of entry that provides a directed view of the open site. The first floor has the main public spaces, plus a guest suite, while the second floor has the master bedroom, two kid’s bedrooms, and a family room – all of which overlook the deck, pool, and yard.
As early childhood education progresses rapidly in China, Family Box recently opened its 6th branch in Qingdao, China. Crossboundaries’ design for the two-level 4400sqm facility offers the enterprise’s usual functions such as a children swimming pool, classrooms, open play areas and a cafe. Situated at the corner of a shopping mall, Family Box opens to the public with a transition zone, holding functions such as library, shop and try-out classes for potential customers and directs its member to the pool and member-only areas.
KA House is a vacation home for a couple, who enjoy outdoor activities and spending their relaxing time in a grand courtyard, where they can run ad play with family members or lay down for a great view toward the lake. The house was designed to enclose the grand inner courtyard. Therefore, the building lays closing to the entrance connecting with the fence. In that sense, the courtyard facing the lake view performs as an actual ‘entrance’, while the front access looks as if it is the rear of the house. The inclining fence guides the vista from the outside to the inside. At the same time, while walking through the entrance, the space gradually reveals the space of the inner courtyard and the building.
