Bestseller office complex in Aarhus, Denmark by C.F. Møller Architects

Monday, May 7th, 2018

Article source: C.F. Møller Architects

Bestseller is a world-wide fashion group with shops in over 70 countries, featuring well-known brands such as Vero Moda, Jack & Jones, Only, Pieces and several others.

The new office complex for about 800 employees is therefore intended as a showroom for Bestseller’s design-driven corporate identity, and resembles a varied flotilla of buildings at different levels, which are connected by a series of outdoor spaces like atria, courtyards, terraces and roof gardens.

The mixture of office buildings and outdoor spaces creates the impression that this is a town within a town. The complex, surrounded by canals and lakes on all four sides, forms the entrance to the new, urban district on the waterfront in Aarhus, Denmark.

Gymnasium of the Louis de Cormontaigne High School in Metz, France by aEa, agence Engasser+associés

Tuesday, May 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Louis de Cormontaigne’s new gymnasium is located on the tip of the island between the Moselle River on one side and the canal on the other, a bow-shaped structure across from the day school and the motorway, the location’s major acoustic challenge. The building reproduces the orientation of the high school building and is perpendicular to the canal. It has also been designed according to the input of light with broad openings in Reglit glass on the north-by-northeast side to offer unified, ideal natural light. The south-by-southwest side has been designed as very opaque, like a mask—a large acoustic shield to counter the motorway noise. Work on the volumes and roofs, reproducing the shed-like appearance, also adds to the indoor staging and the design of the sports areas. Composed of a main all-purpose gym entirely clad in wood and a secondary gym for body-building, the new gym offers the best possible conditions for all sporting activities.

The New Padel Pavillion in Curitiba, Brazil by Saboia+Ruiz Arquitetos

Sunday, April 29th, 2018

Article source: Saboia+Ruiz Arquitetos

The New Padel Pavillion softens with its presence the material frontiers between public and private space at the Parolin neighborhood in Curitiba, Brazil. This is specially noticed during the day, due to the players flows around the club headquarters, or during the evening, when the pavilion acts as a significant, LED light, urban lamp. The physical impermeability, common to massive private sport pavilions, is reduced in this project for the simplicity of its architectonic strategy based in three elements: limits defined by green walls, base in podium and encasement as a suspended box.

The House of Sports in Bezons, France by aEa, agence Engasser+associés

Wednesday, April 25th, 2018

Article source: v2com

How to fit into a site at the heart of an overall restructuring project on a city-wide scale and design an extension on an already very crowded plot of land?

As one consistent entity, the Sports Centre pulls together a large number of elements from different briefs, i.e. an already-existing gymnasium, swimming pool and indoor tennis courts with the creation of a multi-purpose arena, a boxing hall, a bodybuilding hall, two dojos, a football pitch with stands, outdoor tennis courts and a clubhouse.

The new building fits in as a unique wing to the west of the existing L-shaped buildings, unifying the whole in a U configuration.

This creates an inner courtyard, a genuine place to breathe between buildings and a generator of light that unifies all access points.

A Break on the hill

The order is a second home for a family on the slopes of a hill located in the southern sector of Laguna Aculeo, Paine.

BMLZ Villa Office in Tongzhou District, China by Tsutsumi and Associates

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018

Article source: Tsutsumi and Associates

This is a building complex for an architectural material company that mainly deals with import carpet and domestic acoustic absorption material. We renovate and expand the existing building which has basement floor and 3 floors above the ground. Because of the difference of ground level, basement floor has open space on its south side, but on its north side it can’t get daylight. We need to carefully design the expanded volume so as not to block the daylight into the existing space. We studied a lot of models, like hollow volumes around central court or several separated volumes, and finally decided upon a simple box. In consequence, on the one hand its volume is just a simple box with a lot of randomly openings on its walls and roof, on the other hand the 4 scattered small courts make the plan complex. Because the openings of the small courts are restrained so that we feel it “inside”, but inside we can see trees and receive enough daylight from toplights so we feel it “outside”, of course the existing area also receive enough daylight. That is to say, the inside and outside are reversed, or those are merged.
