MG rooftop in Buenos Aires, Argentina by Marantz Arquitectura

Tuesday, December 12th, 2017

Article source: Marantz Arquitectura

For the refurbishment of a terrace located in a classic house in buenos aires, Marantz focused on converting the roof into a new recreational spot by designing an area with green spaces, an orchard with its own irrigation system, and by expanding its living area by adding a grill and deck. A light structure was added, linking the two roof levels with a staircase that connects and saves space. This system adds a canopy where needed, and is left open for the areas that need natural light, like the orchard and part of the deck. One of the most important factors of the project was the budget, therefore the choice of materials was very important. Aesthetic and material quality and balance was achieved through the use of tinplate, tongue and wood joints, wood deck floor, and white plaster. The result is a green and environmentally friendly terrace that creates a place for recreation and relaxation for its owners.

House in Yamanoi, Japan by WARO KISHI + K.ASSOCIATES/Architects Co., Ltd

Thursday, December 7th, 2017

Article source: K.ASSOCIATES/Architects Co., Ltd.

The residence was built on a site that looks up Himeji Castle in a historical district in Himeji, Hyogo.

The client is a couple, who lives on their own. The residence was newly planned as a place to spend their life together after their children became independent. The site is an irregular shape. A small river runs on the west side, and on the other side of the river is a residential district. On the east side, Himeji Castle can be viewed beyond at the end of the front road that has a trace of historical streetscape. The design condition was very challenging, as the site was in a irregular shape, and I proposed the facade which shows the respect to townscape of the historical city. Additionally, beyond the river on the west side, it contrastingly showed a stretch of ordinary suburbanscape.

Hue Hotel in Boracay, Philippines by CAZA

Sunday, November 19th, 2017

Article source: CAZA

Our ambition was to rethink the concept of a boutique hotel and tropical architecture for the 21st century. Embracing the lush climate, but drawing attention inward, the bulbous design comprises a stack of interlocking rings producing a continual, rhythmic cycle of entertainment and relaxation through terraces, roof gardens, and hotel amenities. The experience moves from communal, recreational spaces in the central enclosure to a collection of bespoke guest rooms along the upper reaches of the building.
