Aire House in Granada, Spain by ariasrecalde taller de arquitectura

Tuesday, April 16th, 2019

Article source: ariasrecalde taller de arquitectura

A steep slope with impressive views over the metropolitan area of the city of Granada establish the environment on which the different volumes of the Aire house are staggered, adapting to the topography, generating different terraces and levels that are used to create terraces so that each spatial level communicates directly to the outside in a continuous inside-out that blurs the limits of what is built for the benefit of the outside space, the enjoyment of the impressive views of the landscape.

Chhavi House in Jodhpur, India by Abraham John Architects

Friday, April 12th, 2019

Article source: Abraham John Architects

The challenge of designing a residential villa in Jodhpur was trifold: extreme climate, small footprint and a large project brief. The house also needed to be and is Vastu compliant – conforming with the ancient Indian design principles regarding space, sunlight, flow and function.

The plot was a restricted one within a society scheme, encumbered by the existing adjoining buildings along its compound walls on two sides, and two roads along its north and east sides. Hence, there was a need to create privacy, through orientation of the views, screens and courtyards, as well as through landscape design. The little gardens, decks, waterbodies, sculpture court, sky lit balconies and terrace gardens were all designed to enhance its spatial feel.

Friday, April 12th, 2019

Article source: JEAN GROUP

Concept 1

Land & Surrounding

A building that respects the land and the surrounding environment.

The land is located on the edge of a mountain forest in the Xinyi District of Taipei City (Central Business District of Taipei ). One side of the land faces the busy city while the other faces a vast mountain forest.

The land has a gentle slope of natural terrain that faces the sun. The land shape is also an irregular triangle.

The slightly contradictory environment of city and mountain terrain promotes the potential for different level of integration and transformation.

Therefore, in respect the land and the surrounding environment, our hope is to build a home belong- ing to the nature that anyone would want to live in.

ST Nursery in Japan by HIBINOSEKKEI + youji no shiro + KIDS DESIGN LABO

Wednesday, April 10th, 2019

Article source: HIBINOSEKKEI + youji no shiro + KIDS DESIGN LABO

The birth rate in Japan is on a constant decline resulting decrease in the number of siblings proportionately. As a result, the different age children aren’t able to develop a strong connection which results in developing complex, restricting them to freely communicate with others. This site is located in an area where this tendency can be seen remarkably. Hence we started with 'connection' as the key concept.

Miles and Shirley Fiterman Hall in New York City, New York by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

Monday, April 8th, 2019

Article source: Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

After the original Fiterman Hall was irreparably damaged on 9/11 by collapse of the neighboring World Trade Center, the construction of its replacement became an important neighborhood goal, symbolic of Lower Manhattan’s resurgence.

Out of the many design challenges faced, including the environmental remediation and deconstruction of the existing structure, the greatest challenge was to accommodate a vertical campus on a relatively small site. Housing 15 levels of program space, the new building is home to four major academic programs and contains a significant portion of BMCC’s general education teaching spaces.

Villa Atrio in Bratislava, Slovakia by sebastian nagy architects, s.r.o

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019

Article source: sebastian nagy architects, s.r.o

Villa Atrio is situated in the hillside terrain of a villa neighbourhood in Bratislava. The piece of land is lucrative because it offers an amazing view into the valley of the river Danube and further to Austria, however, with its specific morphology it brings about a few complications. The considerable gradient of the piece of land enabled noise to spread easily from a much frequented road located down in the valley. Moreover, if the slope stayed in its previous state, the surface area of the piece of land we could really use would be minimal.

Dock G6 – Radisson Blu in Bordeaux, France by atelier d’architecture king kong

Friday, March 29th, 2019

Article source: atelier d’architecture king kong

Dock G6 lies on the concrete slab around the wet docks, situated between the neighbourhoods of the Chartrons and Bacalan in Bordeaux. It enjoys a prime position, directly adjacent to wet dock n°1 and situated between the Promenade des Bassins and Rue Lucien Faure which runs from the Jacques Chaban-Delmas vertical lift bridge to the start of Cours Balguerie-Stuttenberg.

Before the Nicolas Michelin et Associés (ANMA) agency defined an urban redevelopment plan for the area in 2010, the concrete slab was home to an industrial site comprising warehouses, storage silos, wet and dry docks, a submarine base, cranes and a lot of very silty water… These elements shaped a universe enriched by the varied palette of its raw materials and which was in need of a form of redevelopment which would not betray its essence. This is why the architectural identity of this hotel complex has been designed on the principle of an inhabited exoskeleton which enters into meaningful dialogue with the spirit of the place.
