Scotts Tower in Singapore by UNStudio

Sunday, January 20th, 2019

Article source: UNStudio

The Scotts Tower SOHO apartment building is situated on a prime location in Singapore, close to the Orchard Road luxury shopping district and with views encompassing both nearby parkland and the panoramic cityscape of Singapore City.

The 18,500m2, 31-storey, 231-unit tower consists of 1 to 3-bedroom apartments and 4-bedroom penthouses, along with expansive landscaped gardens, sky terraces, penthouse roof gardens and a variety of recreational facilities.

Ben van Berkel: “An interesting facet of The Scotts Tower is the way that it reacts to the urban context of Singapore. Instead of the more usual means of planning a city horizontally, we have created neighbourhoods in the sky: a vertical city where each zone has its own distinct identity.”

Guadalupe House in Oaxaca, Mexico by ET.co

Friday, January 18th, 2019

Article source: ET.co

The house is located in the outskirts of the city of Oaxaca in Mexico, a developing context, in the middle of changes in land use, where barely more than half are buildings; a combination between houses and large storage units.

The assignment is given with some very clear requests, due to the conditions of its current surroundings it is emphasized for the house to appear unfinished from the outside, to generate an opportunity to have a recreational space inside by using half of the plot of land as a garden; and the possibility for a visual escape through scale towards the view of the city, the Sierra Norte or of the hill of Monte Alban. The plot of land is 20 meters long at the front and 10 meters in depth, the program is developed in a fourth of the available area, an area of five by ten.

Home With a View in Rome, Italy by Maurizio Giovannoni

Sunday, January 13th, 2019

Article source: Maurizio Giovannoni

The attic is located in the Monteverde Vecchio district, an area characterized by the presence of prestigious villas and buildings that enjoy a 360 ° view of Rome. It was this view, together with the tranquility of a residential neighborhood, that convinced the two young owners to move away from the chaotic old town where they lived.

The state of the places presented itself with a rather binding distribution system; a supporting wall separated the small rectangular hall from the rest of the house, a spiral staircase was positioned almost in the middle of the entrance and on a long and narrow corridor all the other rooms of the house overlooked.A classic vintage apartment.

Binary House in Sydney, Australia by christopher polly architect

Sunday, January 13th, 2019

Article source: christopher polly architect

A crafted volume is carefully connected to the retained and refashioned rear of an original 1960’s yellow brick envelope to enact clear planning, cost and environmental values in an articulated binary composition – a cellular and private front to the street, with an open and public rear that expands to its landscape setting. The owners, a young couple, moved from Melbourne to embrace a beach lifestyle on the southern fringes of Sydney and commissioned a transformation to their home to accommodate their way of living with Ian, their energetic kelpie.

Nomad House in Singapore by A D Lab Pte Ltd

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

Article source: A D Lab Pte Ltd

An intriguing element of the brief for this corner terrace house in Central Singapore became the inspiration for its design. The owners approached architects AD Lab Pte Ltd with a desire to live in the house as nomads, moving the living and sleeping areas from room to room, and having the ability to alter the function and meaning of the spaces over time.

Situated at the end of a row of terrace houses with a green reserve toward the rear of the house, the site naturally had one side that was limited by the boundary wall, and the other that was more related to the surrounding greenery. The designers took advantage of the linked boundary wall to house a linear strip of the “function” or “service” elements of the house, leaving the more open and flexible space to face the side garden and long swimming pool, front balcony and rear views to the greenery.
