The building is located on the site of an old winery. It has the challenge of integrate the existing old buildings, declared as cultural interest, and being part of a cultural complex of a total of three buildings and a common space. This space turns into the main place of the town and an important meeting area.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, friends and acquaintances, police and thieves, candidates for mayor and entrepreneurs, etc. and etc., the city still puts on quite a show. Struggling insolently with the prevailing imperative of sobriety and economy of resources, we are presenting an outrageous and exhibitionist building.

The theatre is situated at the Pig Market/Varkensmarkt/Marcé aux porcs. The overall form of a theater is already defined for the larger part by the problem of acoustics; how to solve it. In essence the Bronks is no more then two large boxes fit together with around it enough margin for circulation and acoustics. Below stage level ‘half under under street level’, we have put the reception, sanitary facilities and techniques. Under the roof top sit the administration and café cum foyer.

Located in a dense historic district in downtown Boston, Suffolk University embraced the once magnificent, but now abandoned, Modern Theatre as a way to meet the needs of its expanding theater program. Working with the City of Boston, the University agreed to restore the original masonry façade and replace the deteriorated theater with a new one, thus also completing the City’s final phase of a comprehensive multi-theater restoration endeavor. The reconstruction of the Modern Theatre revives a city landmark and the project is reinvigorating the neighborhood by bringing new uses to the site, while honoring and maintaining the building’s period look.
The concept of the Grand Canal Square Theatre and Commercial Development is to build a powerful cultural presence expressed in dynamic volumes sculpted to project a fluid and transparent public dialogue with the cultural, commercial and residential surroundings whilst communicating the various inner forces intrinsic to the Theatre and office buildings. This composition creates a dynamic urban gathering place and icon mirroring the joy and drama emblematic of Dublin itself.
