Restaurante Cocina Hermanos Torres in Barcelona, Spain by OAB – Carlos Ferrater Partnership

Friday, October 12th, 2018

Article source: OAB – Carlos Ferrater Partnership

Cocina Hermanos Torres is a project born of the wish to generate a new experience vis-à-vis the world of cuisine and catering. A new space, one that is ideal for living a new culinary experience. Container and content come together in the interests of a unique experience.

“More than a restaurant with a kitchen we’d like to create a kitchen with a restaurant,” has been the Torres brothers’ premise when embarking on the transformation of a former industrial warehouse of 800 m2 that had to be completely overhauled to become “the warehouse of our dreams.” The project by the OAB studio of Carlos and Borja Ferrater is, therefore, created with a view to effacing or blurring certain dividing lines between the different spaces that make up a traditional restaurant in locating the kitchen as not only the central feature of the intervention but also as an immersive element. The restaurant is the kitchen and the scenic space where the diner is both a spectator and a protagonist.

Kolon One & Only Tower in Seoul, South Korea by Morphosis Architects

Monday, October 8th, 2018

Article source: Morphosis Architects

Morphosis marked the recent opening of the new 820,000-square-foot research and development (R&D) facility for The Kolon Group, the leading textile manufacturing company in South Korea. The design features flexible laboratory facilities, administrative offices, and active social spaces that encourage greater interaction and exchange across the company departments, with a visually striking façade that demonstrates Kolon’s commitment to innovation, technology, and sustainability.

Led by CEO and Chairman Lee Woong-Yeul, Kolon (which takes its name from its original product, KOrean nyLON) is a diverse corporation that covers R&D, primary material manufacturing, and product construction. The company produces textiles, chemicals, and sustainable technologies as well as original athletic and ready-to-wear clothing lines across its 38 divisions. Kolon’s all-encompassing scope allowed the company to draw from its own resources to construct the new facility, christened the Kolon One & Only Tower, and assume a unique position as both client and contractor. Fifteen percent, or approximately 123,000 square feet, is devoted to active social spaces, supporting Chairman Lee’s vision of creating collaborative and interdisciplinary spaces that prioritize employees’ well-being. Fifty-five percent of the building is laboratory space, with the remainder designed for offices.

The Dragon Gate in New York by ODA

Tuesday, September 25th, 2018

Article source: ODA

Bound roughly by borders at Delancey and Chambers to the north and south, and East Broadway and Broadway to the east and west, Manhattan’s Chinatown has largely resisted the  real estate forces that’ve seized its pricier neighbors. Home to the largest ethnic Chinese population outside of Asia, the neighborhood remains both a bastion of unspoiled immigrant culture and, in many ways, a uniquely American project—a vital reminder of our historic inclusivity.

In The Dragon Gate at the Canal Street Triangle, ODA New York’s designed a fitting entrance to this storied district. Inspired by the namesake creature ubiquitous in Chinese culture, ODA’s pavilion also loosely invokes another fantastical being, the chimera; in mythology, a beast comprising parts from multiple unalike animals, but here manifest only in the multifaceted nature of their work.

Mediterranean Villa 02 in Spain by METROAREA architetti associati

Wednesday, September 19th, 2018

Article source: METROAREA architetti associati

The intervention involved the refurbishment of a recently built mansion on Ibiza hills, in the Es Cubells area.

The project had to deal with the existing structures, that were characterised by a geometrical architecture, composed by overlapping variable cubic volumes; they were also lacking a coherent architectural oversight and a flowing link between spaces, though.

Waterworks Presentation Centre in Toronto, Canada by Cecconi Simone Inc.

Friday, May 25th, 2018

Article source: v2com

A recent winner at the World Interior News Awards, Cecconi Simone Inc.’s presentation centre for Waterworks – a mixed-use condominium project in downtown Toronto – offered a fleeting glimpse of beauty and a preview of what’s to come.

The condominium project by developers Woodcliffe Landmark Properties and MOD Developments Inc. will eventually include residential condominium suites, a state-of-the-art YMCA facility and a large food hall. The sales centre – now dismantled to make way for construction – began with an existing onsite heritage building that had seen life as both a food market and a water filtration plant. Interior design firm Cecconi Simone was tasked with converting it into an engaging sales space and visual portal into the future lifestyle on offer – all without making any structural changes to the building itself, which will be integrated into the final project. To do that, they incorporated visual cues hinting at the unique attributes of the project’s final design, and took inspiration from the original building.
