Villa Uliveto in Carovigno, Italy by NONAME STUDIO

Wednesday, November 10th, 2021

Article source: NONAME STUDIO

Carovigno is a small town in the province of Brindisi, in the southern region of Puglia.

The house is generated from the natural elements in which it is immersed. The first consists of a low existing limestone blocks wall delimiting the karst part of the terrain from the natural podium on which the villa stands. The olive trees, an almost constant presence throughout the Apulian agricultural landscape as well as an invaluable resource, give the second element: abstract sculptures shaped by time and wind.

Monday, November 1st, 2021

Article source: Fernanda Marques Arquitetos Associados

Located on the south coast of Rio de Janeiro, Laranjeiras residence is inspired by the lush nature of the surroundings. Steel is the structural core, wood the shell that protects it from the sea and connects it to the green area, one of the most beautiful in Brazil.

The large glass frames are the thin membrane dividing and uniting the interior and exterior spaces. Fernanda Marques’ first objective was to create a dialogue between the parts, making Laranjeiras a contemporary jewel between the ocean and the rainforest.

As a typical picturesque Chinese Jiangnan town, the village of Jijiadun locates about 1.5-hour drive from the central city of Shanghai. With the rapid development of urbanization in China, the problem of rural hollowing-out is becoming increasingly serious. By introducing the cultural and creative industries into the village while respecting its rural scene and culture, Jijiadun village is attracting “new villagers” from the cities and thus forming a new dynamic rural living community.

Villa Backyard in Chachoengsao, Thailand by TOUCH Architect

Wednesday, September 15th, 2021

Article source: TOUCH Architect

The site is an hour’s drive away through the East from Bangkok; Chachoengsao, in which the suburb’s living environment is closed to a city, many factories and the sea (Gulf of Thailand), which produces excessive level of soil salinity. A non-terrain land with an artificial pond is where the villa is located. This man-made pond was built to be used as consuming water as well as an atmospheric visualization and all relaxation senses. As mentioned above, saline soil causes brackish water in the pond, which the water was no longer used for consuming not only for household use, but also agricultural use. In order to alter this low biodiversity water into freshwater, rainwater is needed to dilute an existing water in the pond.

Friday, August 27th, 2021

Article source: CEBRA architecture

Danish architecture studio CEBRA has completed a seaside villa in Denmark wrapped in an undulating roof, offering expansive views over the Aarhus Bay while also sheltering itself from the weather. Responding to the specific site conditions and the client’s wish for an artistic expression, the residence is designed as an inhabitable sculpture that takes on a different shape depending on your point of view and the capricious coastal weather.

The villa was developed for a site on the edge of a traditional single-family house residential area, located only a stone’s throw from one of Aarhus’ most popular beaches and offering magnificent views over the water and the hilly Mols peninsulas on the opposite side of the bay. The aim of the design is to stage and utilize this location and life by the sea with the vast horizon as everchanging backdrop for strolls along the beach, winter swimming, watersports, and everyday activities.

Thursday, June 10th, 2021

Article source: Metropole Architects

Tinderwood is located on a gentle hilltop that overlooks the Indian Ocean, in Zimbali Coastal forest Estate, Ballito, South Africa.

An existing home faced the possibility of demolition to make way for a more contemporary interpretation of the governing design guidelines of the estate. A thorough investigation of the original design revealed a strong platform for the end goal, as such the decision was made to retain, yet strip down the existing structure to the point of completely reimagining what was possible on the site.

Velo House in Siete Aguas, Spain by Raul Garcia Studio

Friday, May 21st, 2021

Article source: Raul Garcia Studio

Located in Siete Aguas (Valencia), this house with straight and simple lines seeks to stand out from the surrounding buildings, with a marked rustic style, respecting the use of natural materials such as stone or wood. The volumes harmonize with each other, forming an ‘L’ on the ground floor that adopts a certain dynamism on the upper floor through the overhangs and setbacks generated. The facade, predominantly white and pure, is combined with the masonry and the wooden carpentry to generate spaces full of luminosity and purity that nevertheless preserve a certain warmth. Added to all this are the unparalleled views over the valley on the north face, which becomes a magnificent canvas in front of which to wake up every morning.
