Gansberg district in Koliba is an exclusive residential complex formed by three residential villas stretching across the south-eastern slopes with panoramic views of Bratislava. Horizontally divided floors emphasized by freely shaped terraces and balconies copy the irregular geomorphological shape of the terrain and its contours. The entire complex is thus organically incorporated into the Koliba slope and creates various configurations of views of the city and of the hill, the patios and the surrounding villas. This creates a quite variable topography of views, but also of floor plans with terraces integrated into the terrain, in loggias, and in semi-open and roof terraces. The horizontal division is supported by the vertical structure of façades which underline the linear dynamics of the variability of full-glass window apertures and grey-and-white vertical stripes of decorated structured plaster resembling a forest parterre.

This project possess a paradoxical challenge – the clients want a compact and not-so-big home, but they also want large spaces. In response to the brief, we started off by creating a simple compact box, the box was then gridded into nine smaller boxes with each box representing different spatial programme. The gridded box was later “defragmented” a little by repositioning two of the boxes. By moving the boxes, we maintained a compact form and sizeable interior spaces are made to appear larger as they open up onto the surroundings.

Vietnam has an abundance of nature and townscapes that are registered as World Heritage Sites. Economic growth due to the increase in tourism has raised the standard of living but has also given way to reckless development by clearing away nature. To tackle this situation, we want to create a house that will connect people and nature. Ha Long, home to Ha Long Villa, is a beautiful coastal city in northern Vietnam, 160 km northeast of Hanoi. It is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay. In particular, it is a city abundant with local industries such as fisheries and coal mining, and it is a region that is rapidly developing alongside its tourism industry. The site is near the coast and overlooks Ha Long Bay with a landscape made of thousands of large and small rocks.
Located in a housing estate in an outer city boundary on the west side of Bangkok, area of 429 sq.m., Bangkae House situates within the housing estate project that offers only typical pre-designed homes style with no alternative for being home in an emerging market country some decades ago. On a small plot of land, the white house boldly unfolds dynamic geometrical lines into its lush, green surroundings. Two volumes arranged in a V-shape and seemingly “floating” above the ground divide the land into numerous segments, creating unusual visual effects in a play with perception of scale, position, interior vs. exterior. The configuration is inspired by vernacular architecture, where different elements of the house are situated on slightly different levels, and where the space underneath the house is used as a cool outdoor living area in connection with the garden.
Located within an upward steep slope and considering a wide program of necessities, the project required a dialogue of minimum topographic impact; that pursues something “special” in the terrain.
Casa LL manages, in a successful way, the user´s enjoyable coexistence with the project’s material composition; which combines the perfect balance between outdoor views, distribution and privacy. It also manages for both horizontal and vertical routes to be light and peaceful through the project.
