Nett Winery in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany by Architects Collective

Wednesday, March 6th, 2019

Article source: Architects Collective

Japan and Vienna meet in the Pfalz

The Nett Winery, located in the Pfalz wine region of Germany, can be described as a light, modern, generous and representative building. Comprised of two long-stretched halls as well as a covered passage, it looks like a geometric ray ready to unfold across the landscape. Inside the building, the wine ripens on a vast space of nearly 4,500 m². Claiming the highest quality of wine production, the challenge was to design a completely new building that ambitiously combines the entire production as well as a shop, tasting room, storage, office and living spaces – and which meets the family’s expectations, too. In Architects Collective Christian Nett found a partner from Vienna that could implement his vision of an efficient, ecological and ambitious plan to create a winery of the future.

The Frames in London, England by Squire and Partners

Wednesday, January 30th, 2019

Article source: Squire and Partners

The Frames is a bespoke development tailored to small and creative businesses in Shoreditch. The five-storey building creates 80,000 sq. ft. of flexible workspace for London’s new and growing companies, providing office and studio units to suit a variety of users, along with shared meeting rooms, break-out areas, tea points, cycle storage, shower facilities and a café.

Influenced by the characteristic warehouse vernacular of the surrounding South Shoreditch Conservation Area, the building envelope employs a palette of brick, metal and glass. Following the curved line of Phipp Street with a series of brick columns punctuated by corten-clad window reveals, the design emphasises the vertical proportions of the structure.

REHAU Design Haus in Melbourne, Australia by TAYLOR KNIGHTS ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR DESIGN

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

Article source: TAYLOR KNIGHTS ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR DESIGN

Set in a rustic red-brick warehouse, REHAU’s Design Haus is not your ordinary showroom. Founded in Germany in 1948, REHAU are best known for their quality doors & windows and a vast range of interior finishes. Launching their first showroom in Melbourne, they provided us with a simple design statement; they were seeking to create a space where visitors felt like they were stepping into their own dream home – familiar, comfortable, lush, light-filled, and open.

With the selection of an impressive warehouse space in South Melbourne, it was essential to celebrate the existing heritage bones; which meant, stripping back obsolete items and starting with a clean slate.

Block 41 in Seattle, Washington by GRAHAM BABA ARCHITECTS

Monday, December 10th, 2018

Article source: GRAHAM BABA ARCHITECTS

Located in the downtown Seattle neighborhood of Belltown, Block 41 celebrates the legacy of an historic warehouse while transforming it into a contemporary, multipurpose event space. The 15,000-square-foot, two-story, brick-and-heavy-timber building began its life in 1927 as an ice warehouse. Over the years it was subject to multiple renovations and modifications, resulting in the fragmentation of the building’s large volumes into a series of dark and maze-like rooms. The new design highlights the building’s history by stripping away later insertions and partitions to reveal its hard-won patina, while simultaneously opening up the volumes to create spaces large enough for formal events, yet flexible enough to accommodate intimate gatherings.

Mandela in Shanghai, China by ROARC RENEW

Friday, December 7th, 2018

Article source: ROARC RENEW

The building in Mandela project has a brick-concrete structured warehouse and was renovated in the 1980s. In 2014, it was again renovated and reinforced with additional steel structures. The original concrete walls and its patched texture have been well preserved and covered with clear glass, which created an effect of two textures collage. The staircase, as the media for emotional and functional interactions, becomes the most important element in this whole space.

The Park at South Market in New Orleans, Louisiana by Eskew+Dumez+Ripple

Thursday, October 25th, 2018

Article source: Eskew+Dumez+Ripple

The Park is a six-story hybrid structure, which merges a 441-space parking garage with 27,000-square-feet of street-level retail. Located in the booming Warehouse District of downtown New Orleans, The Park captures the aesthetic rigor of the existing 19th century warehouses, while rethinking this overly conventional building typology and its construction methods. At 205,000-square-feet, The Park blends in and adapts to an evolving hub of urban activity, while tastefully preserving the style of the surrounding historic neighborhood.

Located in Tianhe District of Guangzhou City, the Shadong village, where sits the buildings of this project, was erected in December 1995. The local economic corporation in the late 90s constructed on the commune’s fringe land a 4-storey warehouse leased to the Guangzhou Book Center for their new book storage. Eight years ago, the company constructed a new five-story warehouse building on the northern side of the previous one. The status quo of the site is now one new and one old vacant multi-story warehouse building.
