Ultramontane Tavertet is located in the touristic zone in the region of cingles de l’Avenc, on expansive, beautiful Spanish grounds, near Tavertet village. With 8 spacious suites, BBQ restaurant and panoramic terraces, guests will be able to enjoy the serenity that the cliff hotel provides all set in a breathtaking coastal location. In a world of global connectivity and dazed post-pandemic environment, getting away from it all can seem like the most sought-after luxury. Ultramontane resort at Tavertet will become the beacon of sustainable and peaceful solitude without asking savvy travellers to sacrifice luxury and comfort. One of the major missions of this project is to provide a comfortable opportunity of finding solitude in the pristine nature of the Pre-Pyrenees to those who cannot participate in mountain climbing or other adrenaline-filled outdoor activities. Simple laconic architectural look will attract visitors and encourage them to venture into this remote part of the world to experience its raw, natural beauty.

Duero lookout in Aldeadávila de la Ribera, Spain by Hollegha arquitectos

Article source: Hollegha arquitectos

The biggest challenge of the project was the structural solution of the cantilever platform. The old lookout was set up on a fissured mass of rock resting on an inclined plane. For this reason, our approach was based on a counterweight buried in the solid terrain in order to relieve the less stable rock area.
Due to its length of 12.8m and the location on the precipice, the platform offers completely new perspectives for landscape and bird watch, and the view of the famous hydroelectric station of Aldeadávila is spectacular. At its furthest point there is an opening covered with a steel grating that allows a vertical view over the cliff.

Villa on Iseo Lake in Italy by RYMAR.studio

May 10th, 2023 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: RYMAR.studio

The site is located in a picturesque valley in the northern part of Italy, in the Lombard Prealps, somewhere in between the cities of Bergamo and Brescia. This location was chosen specifically in the province of Solto Collina, as it offers the best views of Lake Iseo, mountain landscapes, walnut trees and Franciacorta vineyards. A permanent residence for a large family occupies two floors and a total area of 1150 sq.m. on a relief plot of 0.5 hectares. The symbiosis of exterior and interior environment, the harmony of architecture and nature allow you to live consciously. Safety and comfort are expressed in ageless natural materials, personalised layouts, smart engineering systems, minimalistic landscape design and sustainable interior. Snow-white architectural concrete, teak, natural chipped stone and metal serve as facade materials. The unfolding silhouette is achieved with a help of frameless glazing – the roof line creates a single horizon. Airiness is created due to the contrasting combination of glass and wood volumes. The plasticity of the roof (it is slightly curved in the middle) repeats the motifs of the mountain landscape.

Forkid’s Club in Shenzhen, China by PANORAMA Design Group

Article source: PANORAMA Design Group

The aim of this project is to enable a new generation of parents and kids to pull away from the busy city life and enter an imaginative parent-child world. The concept of this composite family space is “Valley of Dreams” which includes integrated functions of play, learning, dining and socializing.

Situated in an independent building in Shenzhen Nanshan Park, the characteristics of the double height volume was fully expressed with newly built mezzanine levels to create vertical extension and spatial excitement for kid’s self-exploration. The whole environment was totally made of curves to break the rigidity of the building periphery boundary and seamlessly connect all activity zones situated at the 3 different levels. To follow the curvilinear tectonics, an abstract landscape of valley’s seasonal changes was mimicked in provoking kid’s imaginations. The overall design language is a strategic manipulation of symbolic colors, shapes, scales and tactility to fulfill functional and emotional requirements of a play-scape and gave memorable experience for kids and parents.

A contemporary educational facility using two-way CLT flat slabs for the first time in Japan

Showa Gakuin Elementary School West Wing is an expansion of an existing school to accommodate an increasing number of students. In Japan, the trees planted on a large scale during the postwar and high-growth periods are now mature enough to be used as building materials, and it has become a crucial social issue to protect forest resources through a proper harvesting and planting cycle. Nikken Wood Lab, a department of Nikken Sekkei specializing in the research and development of wooden architecture and wood structures, pursued sustainability and explored new possibilities for CLT as mass timber*1 with the use of domestic wood in this project.

Montessori Kindergarten in Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic by Mjölk architekti + Projektový atelier David

Article source: Mjölk architekti + Projektový atelier David

The kindergarten I attended as a child was originally a rectory in the downtown area. During the communist era it was converted to serve the new purpose. Everything was in fact done wrong there, yet I have maintained a special connection to that building and its grounds throughout my life. If I try to recall what I remember of my years at the kindergarten, there is only so much. Fragments of memories, not adding up to a coherent picture, but remarkably accurate in detail.

This commercial building houses Caxias do Sul‘s Bontempo branch, a renowned furniture chain in Brasil. Located on a corner near Shopping Iguatemi and inserted in a mixed residential and commercial area, the building stands out for its contemporary architecture.

The project was based on the play of volumes and planes, contrasting its parts also by the colors employed. The building‘s access is demarcated by a large structural front balance, protecting the open hall and inviting the public in. In the inner space, the high ceilings create unique spatialities that value the products on display.
